CM Jean is a "badass bitch" but does not have wonder woman hearing. Is Spear taking aim at Jean's seat at the table ?

I tried to follow the discussion over cable TV, but with the constant shouts and interruptions from the demonstrators, it was nearly impossible. Those folks don't want to have a rational discussion of the issues; their tactics are to shut down discussion.

Remind me how many times these protests turned into riots? How many across the nation turned into very violent and destructive riots?

I don't understand why, looking back through the history of these kinds of protests, that anyone would be VERY surprised that the police - who in the past were castigated for NOT protecting private property enough - this time DID protect property, but now is being blamed for doing TOO good of a job.

I don't mean to play devil's advocate here, but $1.6 million for the force is what percentage? Is that like all the officers doing an hour of overtime or is that a lot or a little? The actual number doesn't mean anything without some context, as in how much is their weekly salary, let's say.

"Liberty"--*guffaw*!

@2:

That's probably because this isn't a rational act; if I were a Black American watching my fellow Black Americans being gunned down indiscriminately by the police over and over again, I think rational would probably be the last furthest thing from my mind.

I get that most Seattle protests were peaceful, but many of the protests nationwide were not peaceful at all. You can't blame the cops for coming prepared for violence.

Now certainly if they were violent and heavy handed with peaceful protests you can get angry at them for that but you can't blame them for doing their jobs, which in this case is protecting people from the very real potential of violent protest. Doing that takes overtime and that costs money. If you're going to organize massive protests you have to accept that this is going to cost the city money, one way or another.

$1.6 million for 3 windows?

Let's just admit SPD serves the non-citizen property owners & developers and Not the citizens who live here, shall we?

I feel that, from reading the account of the council meeting, that the demonstrators were loud because they are frustrated and angry about being shunted aside, not having a voice, not having a real chance to speak truth to power. It is wrong to blame the noise of the session on the demonstrators because they are sick and tired of being beaten down and bullied by the powers that be. I am so proud of council member Kshama Sawant for asking deep questions, challenging the powers that be, and for pushing for these public forums so the people have a chance, finally, to speak up.
