But some allergic humans don't like dog hairs on their coat. Please direct your bus-loving dog to a seat on the floor.

Actually, when "explaining the deeper workings of this world and its prime mover, [the] economy" there are three truths

1) Paul Krugman is right
2) In the event you think he is wrong, see rule number 1
3) Charles Mudede is not Paul Krugman

Good Morning Charles,
That was a pretty funny posting. There's humor in humility. I love that pic of the critter. A totally mellow canine.
4
More evidence that Charles was way off base: Russian dogs have mastered riding the Moscow subway.
5
Hi Charles, my dog loves riding the bus. She knows how to nestle quietly and unobtrusively beneath the seat, and always seems very calm and contented. If we're walking by a bus with an open door, she'll try to jump on.
6
Obviously we should implement a dog tax to offset the cost of this public service.
7
Charles is full of references this morning (forgive the Patti Smith reference)
8
Funny the owner rides 3 or 4 blocks on a bus to exercise the dog.
9
Bravo!

@cliche: Yes, the draconian off leash laws around here are "funny". You know what's really funny? Driving miles through traffic to get to Magnuson Park just so your dog can legally chase a ball. Ha ha!

In Vancouver, BC, lots of parks have specific hours where dogs are allowed to run. Vancouver also has far fewer dog haters, or haters in general, for that matter.

@10 - I just thought it was funny the owner couldn't get a few blocks of exercise in as well. Sounds like you would like to live in Vancouver, BC.

Charles et al,
Speaking of pooches on a bus, I read this from the morning paper:
Dog sometimes hops on bus alone, gets off at Seattle dog park
Posted by Cathy McLain
The Associated Press

A black Labrador named Eclipse just wants to get to the dog park. So if her owner takes too long finishing his cigarette, and their bus arrives, she climbs aboard solo and rides to her Seattle stop.

KOMO-TV reports that local radio host Miles Montgomery was amazed to see the pooch get off the bus, without an owner, at a dog park last week.

The dog and her owner, Jeff Young, live near a bus stop.

Young says his dog sometimes gets on the bus without him and he catches up with her at the dog park three or four stops away.

Bus riders report she watches out the window for her stop.

A Metro Transit spokesman says the agency loves that a dog appreciates public transit.

Ha! Go, dog go!

@12 - Thanks for overtaking me as the least attentive reader to this item.
14
@13,
Yeah, I get you. I didn't click the link to the story.
15
@4 - I going to mention the Russian dogs riding the metro too, if no one else had. Thanks!

The other point is one of "like". Do dogs even "like" anything at all? It's a pretty human concept that we're freely anthropomorphizing on canines. I mean, nature tends to take the course of creative-lowest-effort, and maximizes resources while minimizing 'work'. Perhaps everything "likes" to do less effort to get the things it actually wants or needs. The bus is merely a tool, a means to an end for the dogs. The dog "likes" the park, but merely "prefers" the bus to walking the 8 blocks there. Lazy fucking dog.

Oh shit. I just realized: We have to do with that dog like we do with bears that eat human food... o_O ...it will only bring more trouble in the future as it teaches the other dogs.
17
Eclipse rides the Rapid Ride so therefore she doesn't have to alert the driver to her stop: the Rapid Ride stops at every stop. C'mon, Charles! See these things all the way through!
18
@15 I think I will include you in the group from Seattle going to Mars. Your endless rhetoric and boring comments will be a source of amusement on the Red Planet. They might even feed you!

Please wait...
