I really miss the montages they used to do that included films throughout history. I guess they stopped doing those a handful of years ago. Yes, to a degree you can watch similar montages online nowadays, but that's not the same.
Right before the winner is announced they show close ups of all the nominees. Why are those thumbnails so small?? In past years they seemed bigger. The five or so little boxes take up little screen space, even assuming 4:3 ratio.
Did anyone else notice that Eddie Redmayne used the exact same weird whisper for Theory of Everything that he did in Jupiter Ascending? What I'm saying is he should be nominated for that movie next year.
John Travolta needs to stop touching unwilling women; ScarJo looked like she wanted to *hit him*.
“To every woman who gave birth, to every taxpayer and citizen of this nation, we have fought for everybody else’s equal rights. It’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States of America!” - Patricia Arquette
How about Sean Penn's green card crack? That's massively classy.
I loved him in "Milk". That was weirdly *before* I heard how he beat the shit out of Madonna. Mebbe the green card joke was so people would have something to talk about, RE:him that wasn't his shitty domestic abuse record.
..of course, we all being short-attention-span people, likely not too many other people remember that. Be careful, Charlize...
Shit that show was boring. Lady Gaga deciding to complete her conversion into Barbara Streisand by singing a tribute to a 50 year old movie is emblematic of everything that has long been wrong with popular music: an exciting young musician comes along and decides they are an "artist." They then go on to a career of dull mediocrity. This entire show seemed to be written by young people who were attempting to write jokes they thought would appeal to the old.
I'm nearly 50. Why anyone under the age of 30 should seek out the approval of old fucks like me is God's own mystery. Kids, never trust anyone over 30*. And never, ever seek out their approval.
*There is one exception to this rule. People over the age of 30 who don't give an actual fuck actually can give good advice.
As for Lady Gaga singing Julie Andrews, I much prefer the Pearl Jam fan club single featuring Jeanne Tripplehorn singing the Rolling Stones "Shattered" as Julie Andrews. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VLAGhOe…
@23: Inarritu has said: “Sean and I had that kind of brutal relationship where only true friendship can survive. When I was directing him in ’21 Grams,’ he was always making jokes … I made a lot of very tough jokes (to him) that I will not tell you. ... I didn’t find it offensive, I thought it was very funny.”
But yeah, the millions of people watching didn't see it the same way, especially when there were zero green card jokes about the Brits in attendance.
@25, yeah, I looked it up & you're right, the director & Penn are pals. As an artist & writer, I will sometimes throw an obvious fuckup into a script or art piece I'm writing or drawing. Then the editor I'm working with will have an obvious thing to focus on & leave the rest of my story or picture alone. ;)
I was wondering if Sean Penn made that joke because he knew people would talk about that & not his past. But I might be giving him too much credit.
Man, who didn't know that Citizenfour had it in the bag?
