I am very confused at why encampments shouldn't be allowed in residential zones, rather than banned from them.

Homeless encampments are residences, after all.

"...though Lagos couches his support by saying camps should have approval from neighbors and businesses near where they would be located."

That's a pretty cynical way of trying to appear to support the issue without really doing so. The chances of neighbors and businesses in a residential area saying, "Yeah, put a tent city right here!" is just about nil.

District 4 sucks balls. Godden will pander to the Laurelhurst NIMBYs, who will probably outnumber (and definitely out-donate) the UW students, Eastlake renters and Wallingford hippies.

Unfortunately Wallingford is no longer quite the way it was. There are four schools here that are very popular with people who have money (special programs), so they have been buying homes close to these schools ever since SPS lost the Supreme Court case and switched to the neighborhood school assignment system. Someone who must have moved in within the last year has been forcing the grocery store to remove all their garbage cans from the parking lots and also the big NW Center Donation Bin because they claim that these were drawing homeless people (so now there's garbage all over the sidewalk, that definitely makes the neighborhood more classy, right?).
Why they think any homeless people would bother going through the garbage when they can just get the food the store gives out to the food bank across the street I can't imagine! But now I'm worry they will try to make trouble for Family Works and Solid Ground next. Then they'll probably go after the Senior Center. 'Cause apparently poor and old are deadly sins now.

Pretty despicable Jean Godden. I thought "redlining" was illegal.

Please wait...
