What Fnarf said. Big-time college sports, meaning football & basketball, should just be calved from their supposed Institutions of Higher Learning and just become Plain Old Minor-League teams. Baseball does it. Big sports overseas do it.

Let them keep their branding & mascots. Even use the same arenas. But this student-athlete amateur bullshit is just that. Stop it already.

Arguing we should stop college sports just distracts the legitimate question whether the athletes are employees who are entitled to pay and worker's compensation. It's grossly unfair that a student can lose their scholarship and face huge medical bills if they get hurt.

There are "more than 460,000 NCAA student-athletes" and 2013 NCAA revenue was $700M ($1,500 per student).

Some (it can't be all, they couldn't afford it) are getting tuition, room, and meals paid for, plus according to the Ole Miss football players interviewed in that episode of Inside Man, almost $1,000/month for transportation, books, and other misc expenses.

So someone's gonna have to convince me there's some sort of problem before I can give a shit.

Eastern Washington University is also in the tournament and unlike Gonzaga, they are a public university. Screw Gonzaga -- Go Eastern!
