I wonder which group is most anti-LGBT: Indiana law makers, Native Americans, or African Americans?
2
i can picture it now: the president is about to say something approaching an opinion! murmur murmur murmur...

RW christians need to feel persecuted. otherwise they wouldn't be righteous. it gives them a jesus boner.
3
Christians don't know shit about their own professed religion.

β†’"If invoking Christ's central message ("The Greatest Commandment") at an Easter Prayer Breakfast is an attack on the faith, well, that just demonstrates how little regard Christian conservatives have for that Christ person."←

And now for another episode of "Ask Mudede".

Or, well, yeah, you probably already know this.

But when we put the motto, "In God We Trust", all over our money, it was an effort to reiterate our Christian roots against "godless" Communism.

The Communist motto? "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"?

Comes from the fourth chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, v.32-ff.

When American Christians put that motto on the currency, they said "No" to the Apostles of Christ.

@3 - Interesting though, that if you replaced "Christians" with "Muslims" in that sentence your comment would have been pulled.
6
@1:

Well, given that historically many indigenous peoples in North America have recognized multiple gender assignments (cit ref two-spirit variants), I would say they would be a very distant third on that list.

And yeah, far too many American Christians today seem to have an obsession with believing their situation is exactly like that of Hebrews in Egypt prior to the Exodus: an oppressed people suffering under the brutal yoke of an autocratic dictator, despite the fact they have been, and continue to be, the dominant religious group in our Nation.
7
@3:

Why would you say that? Do you have evidence to support your claim, or are you just bloviating for the sake of hearing your own opinions expressed as if they were factual?
9
Phoebe, I thought we had agreed that you would stop making stoopid comments.
10
He shouldn't have chickened out. Those fuckwits could use a good scolding.

@3, the important thing is to always keep the image of the persecuted christian front and center. Christians act like bigots? Well, they're just being persecuted for their beliefs! Christians forcing their narrow-minded views upon everyone else? They're taking away our right to practice our religion!

The through-line of the right wing Christian is their lack of compassion. Over and over, they demonstrate that they don't care about anyone else. There is no meeting on equal terms, there is no effort for understanding, no attempt whatsoever in trying to get a different perspective. They already know everything, they're right, and so they waste their time and energy justifying their stance instead of putting themselves in someone else's shoes with no preconceived ideas.
12
@11 - Yes, being homeless and hungry and enduring saying grace before a hot meal at Union Gospel Mission in Pioneer Square is so un-compassionate.

Shitty Christian, Exhibit A -- Phoebe in Wallingford.

I have met any number of decent folk, kind, generous, caring, who Jesus would probably recognize as followers of his teachings, if he wasn't, you know, dead and stuff. Many of them don't count themselves as religious at all, just ethical, caring people. But, even the ones who are obviously invested in their denomination, tend not to go running around, flashing their "Christian" badge to all and sundry. Perhaps they also listened to the message about being modest in your devotions.

The loudest self-proclaimed "Christians" strike me as not very Christian at all. It's a pity that any damned fool can claim the label.

@12:

UGM, as an IRS-registered 501(C)3 non-profit organization is legally prohibited from engaging in political activity, and in any case hardly falls into the category of what anyone would remotely describe as "right-wing Christianity". Stop being willfully obtuse just for once, please.
15
Remember that in many Christians mind Jesus the person is way less important than Jesus the Sacrifice. To their mind the only really important thing that Jesus did was die for their sins and all that yakking he did beforehand isn't what has saved their soul. Grace rather than works, etc... For some reason this means they get to be sanctimonious dickheads because they're on Team Jesus while at the same time privately behaving however they please.

@16/17:

I believe the operative word in that headline is "handful"; and also noting the article makes specific mention of both the traditional recognition of "twin-spirit", in addition to the subsequent conversion of many First Peoples to Christianity as having had a profound effect on their later views on gender roles and marriage, which in turn has directly influenced their views on Marriage Equality.
19
Sadly both @3 and @5 are correct
20
Amy Grant was there! That's a sweet, sweet hymn she sang, but because I'm a bad person, all I can think of is this vintage Seattle rock tune:

Came across this sight by accident - Wow! What a bunch of morons! Just because you make things up - doesn't make it true! And, to SOMEOLDNOBODADDY - are you kidding me? You may see it as "Christians forcing their narrow minded views on others:", rather than putting themselves in "someone else's shoes with no preconceive ideas...". I'm guessing you have no preconceived ideas? And you think the Christians are more bigoted than the Muslims that are going to schools and rounding up Christians and executing them? I must be confused? Don't quite get your blathering and it's giving me a headache! WHAT A BUNCH OF BIGOTED LEFT-WING CRAP!!!
Posted by a Christian with an open mind.

@21: OH your user name! Your delicious lack of self awareness!
Some Old Nobodaddy Logged In's point is as follows:
Being killed for being Christian is persecution.
Not being allowed to discriminate against others is not persecution.
Right wing "Christians" in this country often seem to have trouble telling those two things apart.
23
Muslims don't know shit about their own professed religion.
24
@7, Just bloviating to hear my opinions. like everyone else here.
25
@5, 21 β†’ Just out of curiosity, do you folks drop by here and say stupid things like that in order to attract negative responses hoping to feed your own fake persecution complex? Fake Christians, fake persecution ... tell us, what are you hoping to accomplish with ignorance (5) and lies (21)? If your faith was genuine, and your case sincere, you wouldn't feel the need to behave so poorly. So quit making stuff up. You're liars. And you can call it persecution all you want, but that doesn't make it true. When you lie, you are a liar. And when you present yourself as a Christian while lying, you're a fake Christian and a liar.

Easy enough?

Good.
26
@23: The longer that comment stays up, the stupider Phoebe looks. Yes, it's possible.
27
@1 Perhaps you should do some research on Native American tribes and their acceptance of gay people.

Please wait...
