The older I get and the more that I rely on my own insular Spotify playlists for music (vs. the radio etc.), the more that festivals like Coachella become a study in regularly being surprised about "who's actually popular with the kids today".
Like, I knew that Drake existed and was popular and that having a still ascendant hiphop performer headlining was kind of a big deal (vs the previous years mainstage spots for Outkast, Kanye, Jay Z, Snoop/Dre). But I had no idea that Drake would be the thing that everyone seemed to care about across the whole festival. It sure felt like 75% of the attendees were sprawling across the grounds by the time he took the stage.
The only good thing about Coachella is that it gets a good number of douchebags out of the Los Angeles area for a couple of weekends. Too bad it has to end.
