I think it's great that all these people are out there standing up for their values. It's a great way to make a show and also make a space for the political to either join the fight or explain why not. God bless you folks.

me proud and saddened by being labeled 'asshole' - for Pulitzer Prize is sacred event for my People. Eli Sanders and Jen, pardon the expression, moment of silence please..............Graves, two Pulitzer headstones on our honor totem pole. Each year we gather with fire on tall hill for length of moonlight, awaiting notification from Pulititzer Prize app. Though she no need, she is Winner already walking tall on rumbled earth and sailing water, we have good luck going to MissO, that is all, Ommmmmmmmmmmmmm
These bitches are protesting arctic drilling,Hrmm.
They drove to the port in their trucks,suv,cars. And they say "We need alternative fuel sources". How many Prius' showed up? That's a viable alternative. Yet those who say we need other sources aren't buying electric and hybrid cars. Making them hypocrites. Plus, most of the gas that's sold in this state comes from the North Slope. On Shore and Off Shore pumping of oil. And they haven't said No New Drilling. Just no arctic drilling. But, they drove to the protest with gasoline that is a direct result of arctic drilling. Oh, aren't kayaks made out of plastics? And don't plastics come from..... Say What! And all of their clothing they have on, Gore-Tex, Fleeces,Rain Shells? ........ Wha!
What's up with the holier than thou keyboard warriors today? @14 you just made up a whole story about an imaginary hypocritical protester. Maybe do something else?
I'm glad those guys are out there shining light on important issues.
@15 -- a number of things.
1 - 'Hater.' - Has it lost its meaning yet? I think we're over 2/3rds of the way there.
2 - 'snarking on the sidelines.' for me, the issue in the water is the sidelines, within the slog comments, this is the main event
3 - 'protect our home' - i'm more about honoring our home. i think of protection in light of not having my mind any more ravished by ideologies and propaganda of the media
@18 I will hazard the guess that the frustration stems from the docking being declared a violation and then it went forth anyhow so the strongest response is for people to go have yell woo at the machine. The whole thing is infuriating and the protest feels goofy when you consider the massive obstacle the current state where the people are way out in front of the politicians and economic leaders.
Now I read on publicola that the Natives are leading people back to the beach and people have to symbolically ask permission to come ashore. Good lard, what a terrible piece of theater. I'll be goddamned if I ever ask permission of a weird dirt worshiping cult if I can set foot a foot on a public beach especially if it's a symbolic gesture.
@3
i don't read publicola, nor horses ass for that matter. seems these two and our beloved comment generator here are the sort of executive, judicial, and legislative branches of cutting edge alt-seattle-online-yakety newz yak. i stay with slog for a number of reasons, Grant Brissey's shopping carts, I Love Television, and also witnessing the slow regal maturation of Ansel with his journalisticizing. Just yesterday, it seems he was in diapers!
Protests really jumped the shark when practically all of them fell under the illusion that they were actually going to change something through their own "direct action" vs it being an expression of opinion.
@14, You're just a Truth Hater. Because you cant come up with a real response. @18, there are only real hypocrites on the water. If you drove there to protest arctic drilling. Then they drove with gas made from oil pumped in the arctic. FUH! They're protesting the very thing that allows them to protest. Arctic oil. If you can't see that, you must work for Shell Oil.

slogger Max Solomon said earlier this week that if you try to change the system from within you'll spend 20 years of boredom. Coincidentally my wife tells me I comment on Slog out of boredom. And I have no comeback to her for that.

True. You probably have more patience to post than I do at this point, but I enjoy reading your comments even (especially?) when you are you are telling dumbshits to shut the hell up.
Hypocrisy at its finest. The Duwamish Tribe that use gill nets that indiscriminately kill fish and wildlife, including salmon and steelhead stocks on the ESA list protesting oil exploration....... Precious.
The ideas are sound. (if not, please explain why). Attacking the way those ideas are expressed, or attacking the people who hold those ideas... asshole move, assholes.
JonnoN - We're getting a little worried about you. These things shouldn't get under your skin as much as they do. I do wish you well and find a way to let it be like water off of a duck's back.
All the stupid, meh-saying climate change denying trolls can crawl back into their caves now.
Hooray, Eli Sanders, Brendan Kiley, and all of you who did go out via kayaks into Elliott Bay to protest this obvious corporate fueled insanity and greed.

Unfortunately, this group of protestors also anchored a large barge at Alki Cove 2. The cables and anchors from this protest barge have destroyed pilings and jackstraws that are home to giant beautiful plume rose amenomies and other marine life. Although Cove 2 may be a convenient place to stage a publicity stunt, it is an underwater park that is enjoyed by hundreds of divers and is home to a great variety of marine animals.

Is there anything that would cause you to turn out and protest?

Our planet is being destroyed. Are you doing anything about it? Aside from snarking from the sidelines?
I'm grateful for everyone who's out their doing their best to protect our home.

If it stops one poor kid from being killed in the Middle East, I fully support development of domestic oil sources.

Cool! We've never had a thread about irresponsible gun owners, otherwise I would provide a link from Slog archives.
And like anyone, i choose my charities discriminatively. I support these protesters. http://www.usnews.com/news/offbeat/artic…
