Nice article, but the photo, hmmm. Have you heard of the woman, she looks like a man, but she is a woman, have you heard of Annie Liebowitz? I'm led to believe by the media that she would have done a much better photo than you. Pay the bucks next time and commission her.
Good Morning Charles,
Good to read you again. Haven't seen a posting from you in a week or so.
I have no comment on your piece. Regarding your photo I, too noticed the flying advert. It's irritating but I don't own an auto so it doesn't affect me. However, you took an interesting picture. A fascinating confluence or positioning of things.
@6, Not many people could afford the premiums if they were required to carry a proper amount of liability and property damage coverage. The market size (customer base) of the insurance companies would shrink, not increase, if we mandated higher minimums. Hence the subsidy to the insurance company here is giving them a much larger customer base then they'd naturally have.
It's up to people to be personally responsible for themselves, and carry adequate insurance. Just because there is a minimum amount that's mandated, does not mean you couldn't or should carry more. If you cannot afford it, don't drive. Or be prepared to pay for the excess damage you create. A good insurance agent or company will tell you something like this if you ask for a minimum policy.
I don't eat dollar menu everyday, even though it's the cheapest option. I'm responsible in my eating habits. I feel like the same logic applies here.
When I started following The Stranger about a year ago, I got impression after a while that they just publish any nonsense that might serve their agenda of the day. Then I realized almost everything that gave me that impression came from Charles Mudede. It's like he just types up his daily political peeves like any random idiot on the web. I've read some great content here (including political stuff) from other writers, but this guy drives me nuts. I'm often on the same side of the issues he writes about, but the weak examples he chooses, the odd connections he draws, the fallacious arguments he makes, and the incoherent ramblings... it's all just awful.
In short, the people of Seattle do not have direct power of the space above their heads.
Why should they? Do you really believe that people should have the right to stop all air traffic "right above their heads"? Satellites? That red helicopter that always seems to be in a hurry as it moves to and from the hospital?
Then again, this is the same guy who thinks the military can replace every single aircraft the military uses with a drone. Even the stuff we use for non-stupid reasons.

And of course one should be free to advertise on a banner behind a plane, 1st amendment and whatnot.
but not wienermobiles. those things are hilarious.
"Yay, I'm glad there's a Bacardi advert in this newspaper!"
" oh look on that wall! My favorite John Deer ad!"
"I wish more people would see this coke commercial and buy coke"
