Cops have better unions than teachers.
3
In case you were wondering, Ansel, teachers in Texas have shitty unions, if they have one at all.
4
Cops should not be allowed to have unions. They already have the bosses on their side; they don't need one.

Whites have it so bad in this fascist/anarchist/communist/socialist country. WAR ON WHITEY!

That teacher's freaking horrific. I mean, the cop very obviously is as well, but at least he was reacting spontaneously in a tense and dynamic situation. That woman was likely sitting at home and of sound, reflective mind upon posting that shit. I almost always feel awful for those people who have their lives ruined by the internet, even when they invite it upon themselves, but she's genuinely terrible. Wow.

Sure, instant gratification is nice. But Whitlatch is being investigated. There is a process for such things, and the process is proceeding within the scheduled time. She isn't on patrol and has no interaction with the public. I have no problem with the process taking the entire 180 days it's allowed. I'll only have a problem if they put her back on patrol after it's over.

The teacher on the other hand, was instantly fired over ONE dickish Facebook post. Even though I find the teacher's opinions completely abhorrent, I'm still dismayed that the process to discipline her lasted mere hours, and went from no-problem to a firing offense. Sure, maybe she does deserve to be fired. But the termination process seems distressingly fast and severe. Do we really want a zero-tolerance policy for dickish Facebook posts? She couldn't have been warned of her bad behavior? Couldn't have been offered a chance to apologize? Temporarily suspended or some other lesser punishment? It isn't like she said it in front of her students. I've certainly said things here on Slog that would be inappropriate for elementary school students to hear.

@7, I'm ok with her being fired. Her attitude towards black people is incompatible with teaching classrooms which include black children.

@7 I concur with your thoughts on process. Sometimes, otherwise good people can say stupid regretful things; sincere apologies can be made, the harm can be somewhat repaired, and careers can be salvaged. Sometimes.

... But, perhaps the teacher was already at the tail end of such due process, having fallen out of grace for some prior actions.

@9, sure, and officer Whitlatch is under her first investigation. So these things might be completely comparable in that scenario, right ?

Why oh why is Whiplash still around? She doesn't like "serving" our kind ...and we don't want her "serving" us.

Begone, Wicked Witch of SPD! ...go "serve" some other unsuspecting town, maybe in Arkansas or Oklahoma.

I'd say her attitude is incompatible with teaching anyone, regardless of the race of the students.

Wait till the teacher gets reinstated after winning a lawsuit asserting (correctly) that the 1st Amendment protects her right to bigoted speech not connected with her employment. I may not like that, you make not like that, but the 1st Amendment is designed to protect speech and speakers that the rest of us find repulsive.

Look for the ACLU to defend the Texas teacher.

Cynthia is an aggressive dyke that needs to be fired. She's been on paid leave for how long? I don't live in Seattle (thank God) but if I did I would encourage her termination. What a waste of money keeping her on the payroll.

Please wait...
