HOLY FUCKING SHIT MARRIAGE EQUALITY IN ALL 50 STATES: So ruled SCOTUS 5-4 this morning. "The nature of marriage is that, through its enduring bond, two persons together can find other freedoms, such as expression, intimacy, and spirituality," the majority wrote. "This is true for all persons, whatever their sexual orientation. There is dignity in the bond between two men or two women who seek to marry and in their autonomy to make such profound choices."
Mayor Ed Murray Will Speak This Morning, Then Lead a Rally: It's almost like he's our first gay mayor or something. He'll speak at City Hall at 9 a.m. The rally will be at 5 p.m. at the U.S. District Court at 700 Stewart Street. (By the way, did you see Eli interviewed the mayor about changes on Capitol Hill for this week's episode of Blabbermouth?)
1/2. Telling my parents I was gay in 1980 didn't just mean telling them that I was sexually and romantically attracted to other boys.

2/2 I was also telling them that I would never have children and that I would never be married. That was then. This is now.

Be Safe When It Gets Hot: "The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for Seattle and surrounding areas from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night," says an announcement from the mayor's office. So, the city wants you to know about public spaces that are cool or have air conditioning. Those include public libraries, senior centers, pools, and Seattle Center. More right here.

Body-Cam Footage from May Day Shows Officer Crowd Control Techniques: KOMO got the video, which shows officers using blast balls and blocking streets and one officer shoving a bagpiper. The Seattle Police Department wouldn't comment. UPDATE: The SPD says KOMO's report is inaccurate when it comes to the SPD's lack of comment. The SPD's comment is "that all force used during May Day is under review."
Cops Can't Arrest You for Swearing at Them: In 2011, when Seattle police were called to Eristus Jordan's house because his sister was highly intoxicated, the cops arrested Jordan for obstruction after he yelled at them from the doorway. Yesterday, Ansel reports, "the Washington State Supreme Court overturned his conviction, finding that the Constitution protected his right to stand in the doorway of his home, curse at, and criticize how police were handling his sister."
State Legislature Considering Stopgap Budget: Lawmakers in Olympia only have a few more days to get their shit together and pass a two-year state budget to prevent the government from shutting down. In case they can't, they have a stopgap plan to keep the government running for a month, the Seattle Times reports.
"A Social Justice Urbanism" Plan from Sierra Club Leaders: Linkage fees, publicly funded housing, renter protections, density, density, density. "The housing crisis and anti-density attitudes are based in a history of exclusion and injustice made worse by rising inequality," the group writes. "Those suffering the most from our current affordability crisis are those who have suffered the most from historic injustice."
Edge of the Circle Books Found a New Home! Probably thanks to the spells we've all been casting. The new spot is in the U-District, reports Capitol Hill Seattle Blog.
