As a fan of True Crime in all its forms, this is a sad day indeed, losing both a great practitioner of the artform, and a Daughter of the Northwest.

@1, yes, it seems a tad crass, but the format is a Slog tradition going back several years. Get used to it.

@4: Being crass is always unacceptable, so it doesn't make sense to get use to it.

I don't even think it's crass really, though I get your guys' point. It's just kind of coldly succinct and unemotional, in contrast to the sentimental manner in which we're accustomed to reading of the deceased (and I'm a true crime fan who's read and enjoyed a few of her books.) Stranger Beside Me was genre defining. RIP.

Crass, I suppose, but effective. I don't live in the northwest or read true crime books. Curiosity about who Ann Rule was sucked me into clicking through, and I read the whole obit. I say Dan has a command of click bait for his audience.

There has been a serious shortage of humor amongst Slog commenters recently. Unsure if it is the lack of meaningful items in the paper leading to more sardonic replies or the influx of trolls (which is related to the decline of content, which drove away much of the regulars).

Relax you fools, this is nothing knew and the dead don't care. Save the harshness for something deserving of it, there is plenty to be harsh on around here these days.

I'd rather read about rape than some dead woman. Good job Dan. Ignore the haters.

@12: Gee, such crass thoughts you have on a lovely morning for your fellow Raindrop. You're right though, "Dead" by itself is not all that crass, but writing "Famed local crime writer Ann Rule has died" is a little wordier but helpful to the reader if they didn't know who she was. It's about being helpful and informative to the reader.
Now do you have a problem with that, Blippy Boy?
