Mental illness shouldn't be clickbait.
2
What a ridiculous asshole. Thanks lazy voters who can't be bothered to look at the internet for a few minutes and fill out your ballots to reflect your real opinions. I can't believe many people voted for this perennial vanity candidate based on the issues. At least you tried to vote in the primary, but you need to try harder.

What the hell does a retired X-wing pilot know about Earth's economic principals?
4
My fear is that this man might actually be elected as a backlash by the voters. Has the Stranger queried him as to his views on the Shell Oil platform?
5
*Principles. Damnit.
6
don't feed the troll
7
Yet another reason why you shouldn't vote for crazy people as a joke.
8
Guess he's got the Andrew Friedman-Ethan Stowell-Sharon Pian Chan vote locked up.
9
I think $15/hr minimum wage is terrible too.

It should be $20/hr, starting with $15/hr in 2015 with zero exemptions.

@4 has a point.

@2, don't assume that everyone who voted for Goodspaceguy is a lazy voter.

Please see Sydney's earlier article: http://www.thestranger.com/blogs/slog/20…

Sydney already asked why people voted for Goodspaceguy. If you read through the comments you'll see that most (though not all) voted for him as a protest vote. I was one of them. I'm not lazy, and I don't think Goodspaceguy would be a good port commissioner. I agree with you that he's a ridiculous asshole, and I suspect most of the people who voted for him know that too. That's why he makes a safe protest vote, particularly in a primary.

Don't worry yourself into a tizzy. Goodspace guy will never hold public office. I think it would be a safe bet to wager he will never achieve double digits, much less a majority, in any election.

did you guys not read his statement in the primary election voter's pamphlet ? this response was entirely predictable, and thus is click-bait.

http://info.kingcounty.gov/kcelections/c…
Statement:

You the people of King County are the owners of the Port of Seattle, a governmental business, which you subsidize. Are you getting the prosperous King County that you want? Improving the economy and increasing jobs are goals of the port, so let’s make it easier for the long-term unemployed and the homeless and the many, many beggars to get jobs somewhere. These problem people aren’t being hired. The job-destroying minimum wage is forbidding them to work.

The minimum wage law produces unemployed people and homeless people and beggars who pester you and even criminals. We should abolish the job destroying, life-destroying minimum wage and return to supply and demand to set wages and prices. The effect of the minimum wage is to tell poor, unemployed problem people that they may not work. Abolish this unjust law which forbids work for problem people. Defend the right of free problem people to sell their labor at their low market rate. With more people working, problems decrease and the living standard rises. As we work for each other in our exchange economy, prices are largely determined by wages. By abolishing the minimum wage, we can get increased employment and increased production, which will raise the living standard and will lower prices.

Please study economics and listen to radio talk show hosts and read the news. When you vote for big spending candidates, you are voting to increase the waste. Big spenders become big taxers. The bigger the government, the bigger the waste. Government grows. Allocative efficiency falls. Blowing up the people’s Kingdome was wrong. Big taxers who you have elected have not implemented Goodspaceguy’s small government program. Warning: There are several people (some brilliant) who have been writing and producing under Goodspaceguy’s name. Increase election excitement; mail voters’ guide pamphlets early.

@4, you should be more concerned about how he feels about good chunks of the port of seattle levy being pledged to fund bertha and the waterfront projects when that same money could be used for more noble purposes like colonizing space and building a space elevator station on some of the many tracts of land the port controls.
14
@12:

Do you work for The Onion?
15
And yet he addresses the Port Commission wearing the flag of Denmark, where unions organized for a $20/hour minimum wage for fast food workers.
16
eh, still better than a fucking Gregoire.
17
@16 has a point. I spent a couple of days being an observer for the Democratic Party when the Gregoire recounts happened, and Goodspaceguy was at our table, along with a Republican, he's not that bad in person. And not a Bertha fan like Courtney's mom.
18
I'm with @16. Considering all the damage the Port has done over the years, what's one more nut on the Commission, especially if that nut saves us from more Gregoire?
19
@18: What damage do you think the Port has done
20
Why would I vote for someone who's economic strategy to affordable living in Seattle is getting more people to live with roommates? Has economic progress been replaced with lowered expectations for the quality of life?
21
@19

I might be using a loose definition of "damage," but for starters, its failure to question the testimony that Alaska Airlines had its selection of workers give to oppose the $15.00 minimum wage.
22
The minimum wage is frequently above the market value, so disadvantaged workers, people who have various handicaps, perhaps are very old, have some mental problems, they can't get work because the minimum wage forbids people from working at their market value.
Uh ... really? So I am to assume that the ONLY reason a very high percentage (if not all) of the unemployed or workers who are currently not receiving the minimum wage is old age or disability.

I could curse, but I think I'll just say ... "charming" in the most insincere manner possible.

Please wait...
