Oh Pitchfork - ok, they did a pretty good job, I agree. I like your omissions as well and wish they would have added "AMOEBA" by the Adolescents. In Southern California it was a game changer for lots of kids - I can recall the new wave kids liking it as KROQ played the hell out of it. https://youtu.be/gDV1mx1Rwko

Oh but you are in luck. dave segal has just what you are looking for. He's compiled a Top Ten List (AND HONORABLE MENTION LIST LUCKY FUCKING YOU) of songs that mongoloid children like to listen to while waiting in line for a public restroom. It's groovlicious.

@2 I agree, though I admit to feeling a glow of some positive feeling when I read a little paragraph praising a song I deeply love.

@2 and @4 - That's it exactly, the best lists have that magic balance of discovery and validation.

Thanks for these, Dave.

Today was my first listen to "Sweetest Girl". Fine track. What surprised me was how the opening measures seemed to have been copied exactly by Outkast on "I like the way you move".

Pitchforks list is pretty damn good, including a bunch of tracks I don't recognize off the top of my head.

Good additions too, Dave. The 80's wouldn't be complete with a Fall track, and the Screaming Trees ought to be recognized in their prime as you've submitted, rather than "on the singles soundtrack."

I'd also have included "The Lung" by Dinosaur Jr.

Sorry, missing an apostrophe and *without, not with.

Nice list. Except: Associates were the 2nd greatest Scottish band of the 20th century. Cocteaus, anyone?

Right on Dave Segal! Lists are hard to compile, always someone gets left out. I love these lists like I love liner notes. Insight into a persons soul. Words and music, communication, feck ya!
