The Duwamish are mentioned in the preamble of the Treaty of Point Elliot as one of the named tribes the US was making the treaty with. Therefore, doesn't the Treaty of Point Elliot automatically federally recognize the tribe? Any decision to the contrary after the signing of the treaty is in violation of the agreement.
