It's just a little overrun. Could've funded education and been used to house thousands of himeless, but whatevs.

Homeless, too.

this is gonna be a billion dollar project by the time it's done. Bets?

Kinda put a perspective on the NO money for education claim. (Starting to think we are looking at this funding problem upside down.)

$71 millions on top of $330 millions. A year late. Not a pause or gasp. There's money just lying around to cover exactly this situation. That's just so dandy. Add Bertha cost overruns and lawsuits, with the assistance of WSDOT and SDOT, McCleary's solved.

Of course as payment, we must bear witness to a kabuki theater presentation of outraged city council members with supportive mayor flagellating bearer of bad news with a decidedly limp noodle.

For every one of these events, a sense of déjà vu pervades and leaves me with this quote stuck in my brain:

"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

Thats very fuzzy math. Cancelling Bertha and the Waterfront project would fund McCleary for ONE year. And almost all of that is Bertha.
If this state wants to fund education properly, it needs to find a serious source of revenue. That's either an Income Tax or a Carbon Tax or both.

@5
I will take that bet. What odds are you giving?

It would be beyond idiotic to cancel the seawall. The tunnel is - in my opinion - superfluous, but the seawall is critical infrastructure. And it's absolutely critical that it be done right. Water is unforgiving.

This would be why I have deep suspicion over the Transportation levy proposed by the Mayor. Too big, too much and are we going to actually get what we pay for?

As for education funding, our state doesn't even fund to the national AVERAGE. When people say, "money doesn't make a difference," I always ask if we could fund to the national average for, say, 5 years and THEN come back and say it doesn't matter.

Please wait...
