Mr. Dougan, if memory serves, also on occasion illustrated for the Whole Earth Catalog and their magazine, the Co-Evolution Quarterly.

So sad about Dennis passing, but this tribute is magnificent. Thank you.

I was reading Denny Eichhorn long before I moved to Seattle. I always loved his comix, and sought them out in the few alternative bookstores in Buffalo smart enough to sell them. I met him once, briefly, at a screening of the Wild Man Fischer documentary, and asked him to sign a comic or two that I had carried with me. He seemed like a genuine and honest man, just full of crazy stories. Sorry to see him go.

Oh, this stings. I read and re-read and re-re-read my Real Stuff and Real Smut issues back in the day, the stories were incredible and Denny's chosen collaborators always put in top-notch work. (Sean, images from the fork-sticking story leapt into my brain as soon as you mentioned it.)
Was it Bagge that told Denny to do the book because his stories were "way better than that boring old fart Pekar"? Anyway, I sent him some samples once in the hopes of illustrating a story for him, and he took the time to reply with a very thoughtful letter back that I still have somewhere.
The guy was one in a million, I'll be enjoying re-re-re-reading those books this weekend.

Please wait...
