Harry Potter franchise has raked in over $8 billion (so far), and Jackson's Tolkein films have combined to $6 billion [source]. The latter has also won 18 Oscars. Then there's the Marvel juggernaut.

What else could possibly be needed to prove to the studios that the fantasy genre is a solid investment?

I'm a former Warcraft nerd and the trailer looks pretty good. I like that they are portraying the Orcs not as evil beasts, but as complex characters with their own concerns. I'd love to see an entire Warcraft film series with Elves, Undead, Taurens, and the rest of the races.

I do have my doubts about the mainstream accepting the films though. Lots of people played and loved Warcraft, but not in the amounts needed to sustain a film series similar to Harry Potter or LOTR. I'd be thrilled to be wrong though.

I will confess that I occasionally enjoy playing Warcraft. And I loved the Lord of the Rings movies. So you'd think I was predisposed to liking this sort of thing. I watched the trailer with some anticipation.

Not working for me. The graphics fall right into that uncanny valley for me. The CGI needs to either be more realistic, or more cartoonish. As it is, it just creeps me out. This kind of almost-but-not-quite realism makes me cringe. I have no idea if the plot will be any good, but the CGI is already ruined for me.

Wait, what's the guy from Vikings doing here?
5
Yeah, wouldn't have guessed Ragnar Lothbrok would fight for the alliance. He seems like more of a horde kind of guy...

Isn't this franchise done to the point of becoming a bad word? Who wants to be associated with Warcraft any more? People don't even joke about sad fat fucks wasting their lives on WoW any more.

I've never gotten into anything Blizzard because I find their aesthetic to be overdesigned, cluttered with glowy particle effects, and just downright messy, but this move looks like it could be fun. I might see it, and I'll probably kek heartily if I do.

I've been playing since vanilla, was hardcore, now casual. I still love the game. & I don't want them to do this film.

I've got incredibly excited about this and then I realized I was confusing Warcraft with Warhammer.

They need to make a big budget, live action Warhammer movie.

Oh, 9! What I wouldn't give! Also for Dark Millennium to've happened. The Emperor protects.

Please wait...
