Kornél Mundruczó's White God is the best film of 2015.

Here are my top 10 films for 2015…
1. White God
2. Two Days, One Night
3. 99 Homes
4. Amour Fou
5. Court
6. Advantageous
7. The Martian
8. Clouds of Sils Maria
9. Ex Machina
10. Taxi

Three films from my list—The Martian, Ex Machina, and 99 Homes—were nominated for the 73rd Annual Golden Globes yesterday. Leading the nominations, however, are two films I have not seen, Carol and The Big Short. The former is by the great Todd Haynes, and the latter is about our vampirish financial system.

The only big disappointment, at least from the perspective of a black African, is the nomination Idris Elba received for his role in Beasts of No Nation. The West always lavishes awards on blacks who play African monsters. For example:

Forest Whitaker won the Academy Award, British Academy Film Award, Golden Globe Award, National Board of Review Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and various critics groups awards for his performance as Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film The Last King of Scotland.
We black Africans have had enough of this sort of thing. Like any other place, Africa has its devils and angels.
