UGH!! Mr Elba was nominated because he's an awesome actor, not because he portrayed a villain. You cited ONE data point for your lame ass theory. Caucasian actors win for their portrayals of cowards, murderers, thieves, psychos, and worse, all the time! Villains are often much more interesting than heroes in the movies. I'm glad Hollywood has finally started acknowledging the many great non-white actors.

Not EVERYTHING is about YOU, Mr Mudede!

Also, where is your proof that Mr Whitaker won because he portrayed a black "monster", and not because he was the best that year?

BTW, Mr Whitaker is American ACTOR, and Mr. Elba is a British ACTOR. I'm very certain they don't care what YOU, "as an African" think about which role they should and shouldn't be nominated for. They took the roles and they worked hard at the portrayals, and they deserve the honors!

Thank you for these recommendations, Charles. I've placed a 'hold' on 6 of the 10 through the Seattle Public Library. What a resource it is! And what a treasure you are!

huge fan of the Mudede, but Forrest Whitaker did a fantabulous performance. Great acting transcends race. There shouldnt be different parts for different races. Lawrence Fishburn as Hamlet, or a black guy playing the elephant man. Cant we at least have racial equality in fiction, for Gods sake? I see Denzel Washington has the big roll in Magnificent 7, and he'S such a good actor that the audience doesnt question why a "black guy" is a member of the Mag 7. Acting transcends race. also, Ive got the bucks to buy my own academy award winners! big bucks, baby.
