If you're in government, you don't get to walk away, Trump. you have to stand there and take the horseshit that narcissists like you toss their way.

I swear, America is dumb enough to elect this asshole.
2
Isn't this just a roundup of yesterday's posts?

@2 +1
4
@2, 3: it's the first mention of Lavoy Finicum's death.
5
@1: He's not in government; so it's his prerogative - as self destructive as it may be.
6
@5: I was referring to this "Unlike the very stupid, highly incompetent people running our country into the ground...". Those would be people in government, no?

At least, that's what I assume Trump's minions mean.
8
@0 (?), see @6. IDGAF if Trump skips the debate. it illuminates the situation nicely: it's a farce as you said.

Everytime I hear or see Megyn Kelly all I think of is this brilliant take down on the Daily Show from 2011:

Enjoi!

@7:

Actually, throwing all the GOP candidates together in an Extreme Battle Royal Electrified Cage Match would probably be the only truly fair way to pick their presidential nominee - and I guarantee, it would be a ratings bonanza for whatever network could pull it off.
12
@9:

How about Minster of Propaganda? Otherwise, she'd probably insist on starting out as Secretary of Health & Human Services, just so she could gut the Department, shut it down, and move on to the next Cabinet position - lather, rinse, repeat.

@13, Fort Lawton is still owned by the feds; there was a protracted push to have it "de-fed-ed" but that didn't work. Thus the wealthy enclave, complete with park as personal yard.
17
Finally the Mayor admits that he may have waited too long to act. A real shocker if you have been in Seattle for the last four years. But don't worry Seattle, they aren't all criminals so things are ok. If you don't like the homeless situation and you are fed up with the lack of enforcement over the past four years you lack compassion.
18
@13: the empty barracks at Magnusson Park are contaminated with Asbestos, and the city lacks the funds (or the will) to mitigate it. it would be a several million dollar bill to make it liveable. all other useable housing is filled, and new units have been built in 2 separate developments.

The Discovery Park homes are a fait accompli.

your comment about the $15 min wage is just stupid.
19
@1 Maybe Trump is taking Palin's endorsement seriously?
22
@13 @18 An old article but affordable housing at the barracks is still the plan. Construction starts in 2016 or 2017.

To the Stranger Staff: while there are larger issues that need attention, consistently referring to this particular homeless encampment as "The Jungle" is not helping whatsoever. It's insulting to the residents who are just humans trying to survive in wretched conditions, and furthers the narrative that these desperate folk are little more than animals preying on one another who deserve what they get. Please stop, and encourage others to stop.
25
@24, Good point, but what are the residents of said encampment calling it?
26
@23 you're probably just trolling but...

"drop in employment" [citation needed]

and

The minimum wage has been $13 for large employers for all of 3 weeks now.
27
"Murray urged people not to "use this tragedy to try to paint all homeless people as criminals.""

Who, other than Mayor Murray, his staff, and The Stranger are using this tragedy to try to paint all homeless people as criminals? Nobody else is saying this here and now except them. They're trying to paint the fears of the local populace as irrational by creating a group of ultra-NIMBY extremists that simply don't exist in this case.

While there certainly has been some Nimbyism, it has been mild at best. Nobody here is demonizing the homeless except the people saying "Don't demonize the homeless!".

Enough already. Get off the tired soapbox and deign to step down amongst the plebeian caste so that we can make progress on this issue, for everybody's sake.
28
@22: thanks for the link. like I said, its a hefty price tag: 52 million for 128 units, with a per unit cost of >300K.

the 1-night count will show we need 10-20 times that amount, and not 2 years from now.
29
Mayor Ed Murray has been neglecting Minority, Family Owned Small Businesses on 23rd Ave in Central District. We have been hit with massive roadworks project that is at least 2 years long.

12 waterfront businesses get 15 MILLION dollars
MLK project businesses got 15.2 MILLION

Central District small businesses are receiving $0.

701 Coffee on Facebook has put together a petition for people to sign. Mayor Ed Murray needs to be taken to task on this. Sawant has abandoned her post as well.

According to both of them it's not their problem we are being crushed economically.

I wish The Stranger would do an article on what's going on over here. Seems every news outlet is concerned about it but The Stranger. Hop aboard, and help us get the word out!

Thanks,

Sara Mae

WTF does "LaVoy" mean, anyway? Is it some nickname? I thought nicknames were things like "Shorty", not nonsensical psuedoFrench words.
32
@31- I grew up a few miles from a LeVoy family. It probably comes from virtually illiterate people filling out paperwork a hundred or so years ago.
33
@11, 7 - Considering who'd come out on top in that scenario it dawned on me, not a single Republican candidate served in the military. Rubio might have take Tae Kwon Do in grade school, but I'm guessing. Trump has probably never even gotten wet.

Open this up to all parties and, errr... say hello to President Jim Webb?
34
@32: but his given name is Robert. All the reporters are calling him Robert "LaVoy" Finicum, like the middle name there is a nickname.
35
Wait wait wait. Hold up.

The Mayor has a jacket embroidered with "Mayor Murray".

That's just too much.
36
#29, I took the 48 to Swedish today, going past that construction. You're right, the whole place is torn to pieces, with little to no bus service from Jefferson to Madison and no warnings about the route revisions at other points along the 48 route. I feel for you, and it does not look like your future is going to be easy. It is hard to even walk in the area, much less actually grace the businesses with customers.

Please wait...
