I won't be able to make it to Slog Happy tonight. (I have to go review a movie for next week's paper.) I'll miss everyone! But I'm sending along a great collection of advance reader's copies of books for you to enjoy.

There will be neat comics, including Peter Bagge's Other Lives, the new book by the author of Hate; Market Day by James Sturm; and a new Hellblazer comic—er, excuse me, "Graphic Novel."

There will be thrillers, including The First Rule and The Other Side of Silence, memoirs like Vanishing Point: Not a Memoir, and literary fiction by Thomas Lynch (who I love). There's also a coming-of-age novel called Joe Speedboat and some trashy-looking sci-fi with titles like Destined for an Early Grave, which has a mind-blowing synopsis:

Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they've fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it's time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She's having visions of a vampire named Gregor who's more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn't know about.

How can you resist a pitch like that, I ask you? Answer: You can't. And there will be plenty more where these came from. So come to Slog Happy and pick up a book or two. It'll just cost you a book report!
