We have an open mic night at South Lake Union Bookstore Inner Chapters tonight, Ron Hansen giving a lecture and a reading to celebrate the 2010 Denise Levertov Award, which is given to writers who present a "serious and sustained engagement with the Judeo-Christian tradition."

Suruchi Mohan reads at Elliott Bay Book Company tonight. Divine Music is a debut novel about Indian classical music. According to the book's website, its themes are "Spirituality and sensuousness, the divine and the carnal, decay and regeneration."

Marshall Brown reads at University Book Store. The Tooth that Nibbles at the Soul: Essays on Music and Poetry is Brown's latest collection about classical music. Two readings about classical music in one evening! You know what this means: Classical music fight!

And Steve Almond reads at Third Place Books tonight. The Candy Freak author reads from Rock and Roll Will Save Your Life: A Book by and for the Fanatics Among Us (with Bitchin’ Soundtrack). There are two things about the title of this book that make me want to drive hot splinters into my own eyes: The "will save your life" construction is tired, and the "bitching' soundtrack" part is just, you know, gag.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
