Robert Goldstein reads at Queen Anne Books. Goldstein biked through Finland and Norway. Riding with Reindeer is about that experience. Perhaps he will be able to help us determine, once and for all, the difference between those two countries.
Elliott Bay hosts two readings tonight. First, baseball historians Steve Steinberg & Mark Armour will wax philosophic about baseball. And then, later in the evening, Steve Almond will read from Rock and Roll Will Save Your Life: A Book By and for the Fanatics Among Us (with Bitchin’ Soundtrack).
Louis Sachar, the author of popular young adult novel Holes, reads from The Cardturner: A Novel About a King, a Queen, and a Joker. Also in the U District will be this week's edition of the Jack Straw May Reading Series. Jack Straw does very good work, and it's the kind of work that often goes unsung: They teach writers how to better read their own work. As someone who goes to a lot of readings, I am grateful for writers who endeavor to do a better job of reading their own work. Tonight's readers are Roberto Ascalon, Amber Flame, Denise Calvetti Michaels, and Louise Spiegler.
