Like the headline says, Borders is laying off an unknown number of employees at its Ann Arbor headquarters. (The unofficial Borders Employee blog is apparently at ALL CAPS ALERT over the news.) Earlier this month, Borders announced that they were cutting 100 jobs at a Tennessee distribution center, too.
This past April, Borders announced that they secured $90 million in financing. They just started selling their own, no-frills e-book reader, the Kobo, in June; it's possible that this is just repositioning for computerized media and not a sign of more bad news to come.
