Town Hall hosts a new edition of Short Stories Live. This one is titled "The Jewish Imagination." Since Short Stories Live has been on summer hiatus, here's a refresher: Trained actors perform staged readings of classic short stories. Today, they'll be reading three stories about being Jewish by some great authors: Woody Allen, Saul Bellow, and J.D. Salinger.
Elliott Bay Book Company is hosting two events today. Miryam Kabakov goes first. Keep Your Wives Away From Them: Orthodox Women, Unorthodox Desires is an anthology of "fourteen first-person accounts of lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals."
And then comes the main event. Local author Steve Murray and Tiina Nunnally will give a talk about translation. You might know Murray a little better as "Reg Keeland," the translator of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. This makes Murray one of the world's foremost experts on those books and, since the author has passed away, this is as close to a Stieg Larsson author reading as you're ever going to get.
