We have a bunch of events going on tonight, including a Salon of Shame, an appearance by an author who was dumb enough to try to write a sequel to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and a discussion about local food. And then there's the stuff I'm going to tell you a little more about right now.

At the North East Branch of the Seattle Public Library, there will be a lecture titled "Women's Suffrage in Washington State." It's important to know about the history of women's suffrage because it can provide a blueprint for how to win other important battles being fought today. The fight to give women the right to vote wasn't just national; it was a local battle, too.

David Gregory speaks at Town Hall tonight. The Meet the Press moderator will talk about being a member of the White House press corps.

And Elliott Bay Book Company hosts Tom McCarthy. Man, oh, man do I love McCarthy's debut novel, Remainder. It's an awesome book, and you should read it. Unfortunately, his second novel, C, is boring and aimless and I do not recommend it. (My post about that book is here.) But you should go to the reading! I bet he's really interesting in person, and he wrote a really phenomenal novel. He's just not in town to promote his really phenomenal novel.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
