Is it me, or does she look like shes touching herself when she puts the puppet down (out of camera view).

I like how she tries to dispute the whole "Most of the money goes to the record producers and very little goes to the artists" when she admits she doesnt know if its true or not. Fact is, many of the recording artists make far more money by selling their songs independantly on their own web site. It doesnt cost much to record an album professionally and its even cheaper to sell it online. You can make good money just by avoiding record labels.

If I can't afford your book, I'm not going to buy it. Because I can't. So whether I download it or not, you aren't going to get money from me.

Man, Steve Lieber must have been really desperate or bored, to try to talk online with 4chan posters as if they were human beings...
4
Do you not want people to read your book?

I saw the story about Steve Lieber's success after the piracy, went to his website where he had posted .pdf's of the book on his own site, saw it was really cool, went to Amazon and bought it. Whole process took less than 15 minutes.

I'm not going to be buying Jackson Pearce's book.

The thing that artists need to keep in mind is that there is just soooo much content out there. If I don't buy Ms. Pearce's book, it's not like I'm going to be here pining away for want of a book. I'm going to be reading some other book, either one I have purchased after skimming it to see if I like it or one borrowed from the library. There are so many books out there that I know I'll love that I don't want to spend money on crap. If I've never heard of you before, I want to read some of your work before I commit. I don't trust any reviewers because they don't have my tastes. Yes, I've agreed with some book reviews, but I've disagreed with so many others.

If I'm ever independently wealthy, I'll start buying books from authors I've never heard of based on a cute video or a well-designed website. Until then, I only want to buy books that I'm 90% sure I'll love.

Wait, so she made the choice to be an author, then is complaining that she is eating ramen noodles? Also, she cannot buy an iPad. My eyes brim with tears for the injustice of it all.
7
I thought she was a whiner too, but funny thing is, now I've heard of her. (Will that make me buy or even pirate her book though?)
8
I don't think it's the pirating alone - Steve Lieber has got to be one of the most friendly guys in comics. I've met him in person and he deserves all the sales he's getting.

When I BUY an ebook on Amazon, I have to DOWNLOAD it to my computer. This twit does not make the distinction between legal downloads and downloading in general. Which is ironic since she has a pirate puppet in her hand. Sweethart, the problem you have is with downloading pirated materials, not downloading "books" which millions of people do legally every day.

Damn, y'all sound like a bunch of trolls under a bridge. Not everybody in this world has ugly little thieving hearts like you, I'm glad to say. Though I am pleased to see that David Bowie lets you goblins get on the computer from time to time- it must be nice to take a break from stealing babies to leave condescending and ignorant comments when someone dares to suggest you not get books for free.

When it comes to small and unkown artitists and publishers, piracy seems to do wonders for them time and time again. Sure one can argue that if an artist is not getting paid, they lose out but it seems conversely their market base increases wider because of the free distribution and sales follow up with the increased exposure. Point in case, Alex Jones. They guy has made a fortune of creating videos and telling everyone to give them away for free!

Did she pay a royalty to the party that owns the rights to that pirate song she used at the end of the video?

If an author WANTS to have his/her book distributed freely on the Web with no compensation that choice is available. Not sure why that means every author must agree to being pirated as well.

@2: This is seldom about people who can't afford to buy the book/movie/music in question. It's that they don't want to pay for it.

Please wait...
