You both fucking rock, not to put too fine a point on it. Have already pre-ordered copies for us and our 2 local schools. (You guys should have a feature on the IGBP page where you can donate a copy to a GSA.)
...and yeah, Terry is ridiculously good looking. Dang.
The use of power and celebrity is an excellent way to get this important issue to the public, but I'm glad to see that this will include statements from average, regular people the kids can identify as similar to them - there is the real impact. Those are the videos that are most powerful to me. Thanks, Dan and Terry - continuing job well done.
Jaymz, don't know how to paste in a link from my phone, but if you scroll through the last couple days of JoeMyGod, there's a picture of a young not famous guy who's in the book, and pleased as punch.
Fuck this self-congratulatory bullshit. When can we expect Doorknob Danny to bully another obese woman? We look forward to Doorknob Danny's comments on obese women as much as his comments on youth pastors, pitbulls, or Santorum.
Kids make you age. I love being a dad but all the stress of parenting has aged me. Dan looks like a parent. You can spot parenthood aging. But, my God, his husband, Terry, looks way too young to have a child. Next book needs to be the secrets of not aging once you have kids.
I believe it was frequent SLOG commenter Despicable Me (first commenter on this post, btw) who gave Dan and Terry the inspiration for the "it gets better" project, right?
Will Despicable Me get an acknowledgement in the book maybe? I think it seems fitting (I mean, not that this is about personal glory for someone, but sometimes people like to know the history... how it happened in the first place and all).
Wow, Urgutha, that takes me right back to those weeks, seemed like every time I looked at slog, there was another one. I remember despicable me's comment, too, and that feeling of helplessness. I remember sitting where I am tonight when I read that post, in my daughter's apartment as she settled into college, thinking that those kids would never have that. And then seeing the birth of the whole project. Dan and Terry should be so proud of this (if you read children's books, it's their "miss rumphius" moment...)
This book deserves all the accolades it's getting, but next time could you rethink the music? the idea is to KEEP people from killing themselves, remember?
@26--when you go into Barnes & Noble and ask for the book, the company's search engine tends to default to whichever author's name is first, so it makes more sense for Dan's name to be first since not everyone is going to remember Terry's last name--other things about him, hmm, but not his last name.
Maybe Terry's name needs to just be in bigger type, maybe with a nice clear picture...mmmmmmmmm
One copy for me, one for the local high school principal, one for the guidance office...oh yeah, one for my queer loving church. Hmmm, better get two copies for me, one to keep and one to lend.
Also, I gotta say the loving look in Dan's eyes as he watches Terry speak brings tears to mine. Dawwwwwwww! You two are doorbells!
(If it's as heavy on the famous/showbiz people as the promo makes it seem, I bet fourfour's gonna have to write about it. I am just saying...)
Yeah, didn't Terry used to be something of a twink?
BTW, do things seem to be getting any better for Dan?
...and yeah, Terry is ridiculously good looking. Dang.
Now back to my hand-held pies...
