Gillian Gaar is one of the most interesting long-form rock writers in the Seattle area. She’s deftly documented Elvis Presley’s comeback and the long, often-frustrating history of women in rock, and now she’s finally tackling the elephant in the Northwest’s music room. This is a debut party for Entertain Us: The Rise of Nirvana, a book about Kurt Cobain’s ragtag band of grungy punks and how they became the biggest band of the ’90s. Gaar will discuss the hours of interviews, the local perspective, and the hardcore reportage that she packed into her newest book. (University Book Store, 4326 University Way NE, 634-3400, 7 pm, free)
