It’s the most wonderful week of the year again: The APRIL Festival is coming back to Seattle. Last year, we nominated the whole damn festival for a Stranger Genius Award in literature, and tonight is a great explanation of why: Their kickoff party features 2013 Genius Maged Zaher, 2012 Genius nominee Ed Skoog, poetry scientists the Vis-a-Vis Society, and APRIL’s very first writer-in-residence, Jac Jemc. Last year’s kickoff party involved fortune-tellers, fancy balloons, a beautiful invocation from Rebecca Brown, and a brain-meltingly weird drag performance. APRIL is sure to one-up themselves this year. (Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, aprilfestival.com, 8 pm, free, 21+)
