Gillian Gaar's book is a treat for the label's hardcore fans.

Part of a new book series on record labels, each title is the size of a 45 single.

SUB POP did active branding, no other indie labels did that. Branding was unwritten taboo - it could be construed as advertising/selling out. Bands chaffed at having to fit the SUB POP mold. It probably did save them.
