It was interesting to read this piece. I have just self-published my first novel, into which I tried to inject as much humor as possible. I found it easier to write from an upbeat, humorous standpoint, though there's nothing humorous about editing and re-editing the thing a thousand times. There is also little humor in trying to get it reviewed and your voice heard. For anyone who's interested it is 'The Occasionally Disgusting Adventures of Brian and Sprig' and is available from various on-line sites including 'Amazon.com', 'Barnes and Noble' etc.
My personal favorite author was/is 'Tom Sharpe', who combined with 'Douglas Adams' showed me that you can write a book about absolutely anything.
