"Count", "on four", "pedals", and "old Carole King number 'It's Too Late'" describe the music as well, if you're familiar with the Hammond B-3 and the tune. Even "drawbars and switches" means something concrete. "Smoke in its throat"? From this passage I know exactly what he's hearing here.
Sitka is not "the frozen wastes". It's not that different from where you live. I wouldn't bother saying that if I didn't LOVE this review, and your book reviews in general. Thanks.
I couldn't help thinking while reading this book that the record store aspect of the story was largely beside the point, more a setting than a major part of the story itself.
