This is the kind of thing that drives me bananas, as someone who regularly wants to buy books published elsewhere. I checked, and you can't even buy it on Amazon.co.uk, which is my usual workaround for foreign books. You can add it to your cart on Amazon.co.in (Indian Amazon) but they won't ship it to you. I did find it on Addall, which took me to an Indian seller on Biblio.com, who wants $7.98 for the book plus $12.60 shipping from India, which backs up what Mr. Simonson says. That's less than the private sellers on Amazon want (Amazon itself is not selling it). Wait, here's a guy on Abebooks asking $7.98 plus only $4.72 shipping, from India.
The fact that the author lives in Seattle makes this even more insane.
Another stupidity: ebooks. There's a book I want that is UK-only, but I can buy a copy for $200 and have it shipped here. The Kindle edition is only $20, but they won't allow Kindle editions to be sold across borders.
This is as stupid as the DVD region codes that prevent viewing movies made for other markets even if there is no version in your own market. There is no rational reason for this but they do it anyways. They have abandoned region codes for Blu-Ray, I see, which is a small victory, I suppose, though I don't yet have a Blu-Ray player.
This is the kind of thing that drives people to piracy. I WANT TO PAY YOU BUT YOU WON'T LET ME.
