you can toot the density horn all you want - if you've lived here for more than 10 years you've noticed the influence of tech money and the soulless cultureless growth it has brought

If you've lived here for more than 10 years, you've noticed that people have been griping about changes stemming from growth the entire time.

And that pre-dates the rise of Microsoft. The lost Seattle lamented there is still a Boeing company town.

Agree with CHZA. But also, Heidi is newer to town. The downtown business lobby and developers have been fighting affordable housing regulations for years and years — they are why we don't have affordable housing integration with new construction. Amazon has passively taken advantage of this — where they could have been taking a leadership role with a mind towards maintaining diversity in SLU. The NIMBY skyscraper folks mentioned at the end are new to the party and have had little to do with the status quo — nor do I agree with them.

"an example of how quickly anti-Amazon sentiments can start to echo the anti-growth mindset that fuels fights against density and housing affordability across the city."

Bullshit.

Why do new buildings hurt people's feelings so much? I really don't get it. In my neighborhood of Belltown, there are ABSOLUTELY NO new buildings in development that destroys even one bedroom - not one. Same with SLU as far as I can tell. It's something in the buildings themselves that hurt their feelings just -so- much.
