With crimes like these, in many places, the clock doesn't even start ticking until the victim turns 18 because they realize that someone that young doesn't always have the ability or where with all to go to the police, immediately.
It's 100% up to you. In many instances with statutory cases it seems like it's the parents who pursue it and often it's a much bigger ordeal to the kid than the often consensual and non-issue event, itself.
This is *not* one of those cases. This is the case in point example of why there are laws against older people having sex with younger people even if they consent- because they can lead to abortions and emotional damage.

I hope you'll go to either Planned Parenthood ,to a center for battered women or to the rape crisis team to get some referrals to the resources available to get you back on your feet, emotionally, medically and in the more practical terms of a safe place to live. There is help available and there is no shame in seeking it when you truly are in need.... as for pressing charges, that's a hugely personal decision and I won't presume to say you should or shouldn't but you need to decide soon, maybe with the help of a crisis counselor.
For what it's worth, the hormonal roller coaster does not last forever, it just feels like it. It will settle down in a very few weeks.

Anon - you should absolutely press charges. Start with the clinic where you had your abortion, they probably can lead you to the resources you need (legal help and counseling).
As a matter of law (if not always one of reality)she *can't* consent, therefore, legally, it was not consensual and as I read it, it was not "once", this sounds as if they saw each other long enough for her to believe that he gave a damn and would continue to give a damn when something painful and "not fun" happened.

@Anon: Go to Planned Parenthood and get a copy of your medical records so you will have them if you decide to press charges. It can take awhile to get them. While you’re there get on Depo or an IUD. You are not going to be popping the pill everyday if you’re on the street. Depo also can eliminate your period, which is a bonus if you’re homeless. Good luck.

Anon, if you're online and reading this all somewhere out there, a women's resource center will be able to give you specific information to inform you what your options are (legally, and otherwise) so that you can make the best decision on how to handle this and on what time table.
People are logging into here from all over the country (as you, yourself, may have written in from outside city limits or be referring to an experience before you wound up in Seattle). You need to know what the law and resources are where you are and where this happened.

I don't know if I buy all of that, because it takes a pretty spectacular amount of stupidity to not only get pregnant at 18, but to stay pregnant into the second trimester. You can always move past a bad relationship, but she absolutely lost my sympathy over the whole pregnancy thing. Relationships at that age are virtually always temporary, so pretty much the stupidest thing you can possibly do is get knocked up.
That being said, if you can prove the paternity post abortion, take action. While I don't necessarily believe in all statutory rape prosecutions, I do believe that stupid assholes need to be culled out of the general population, and into an all male atmosphere where there's no danger of his genes getting passed down.

Just because you're taught how to use birth control AND use it, doesn't always mean it works. Also, her frontal lobe is not fully developed, and won't be till 25, so her decision making ability is not fully functioning, thus the poor decision to date a man 8 years older than her in the first place when she's not of age yet. This is why there is an age of consent.
This is why teenagers do things that adults find completely stupid, but I can guarantee we were just as clueless at that age.
Also, she wanted revenge, not to put him in jail, which is far more mature. Taking it to the police has consequences that are pretty crazy. And yes, he is a criminal, but if she doesn't want to press charges, that's her deal. She has time to change her mind.
Also, lesson learned, hopefully, about older guys. Yes, I'm sure you're beautiful and mature and articulate, but the guys who will date you that are nearly a decade older are not, which is why they can't get women their own age. This is a warning sign, not a bonus.

and i would like to reiterate, that i was on the nuva ring, and it failed. i didn't know that i was pregnant because i spotted twice, and i usually have fairly light periods. i didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
and i only used the word 'homeless' to be dramatic. im a traveler, by choice. and by 'unemployed', i mean underemployed.
