I'd add to the "Dear Everyone" in the texting/driving incident - how stupid/abusive do you have to be to not have your 2 year old in a 5 point harnessed car seat? I hope Child Services keeps that "mother" on their radar....

I can understand why you might not be aware of the Milgram Experiment. The supposedly college-educated Ms. Moriarty has no excuse. She did the right thing by calling the cops on the guy, but I think it's arrogant to assume she'd take the high moral road.

Sure, sure, if in this guy's position... Yes, it's easy to say that. But she'll never be in that guy's position. The moral dilemmas people face will be completely unique to them. No one knows how they'll react until they get there. And as Milgram discovered, there's a lot of people out there who consider themselves moral, and yet when faced w/ actually torturing people, have no qualms about it.

Actually, in the Milgram Experiment, it was discovered that those people did have qualms about torturing people but would do it anyway when told to by someone in authority.

Here's a reinactment of Milgram's Experiment done just four years ago. Even though they aren't being threatened and even as they express great distress over what they're doing, most of the subjects DO push a knob that they believe is delivering painful shocks to a person in the next room, all because someone of authority is telling them to:

They tried to adopt out the dogs. Maybe instead of trying to kill the dogs they should just have fed them the family children. Shit what are they supposed to do if they run out of money.

Glad you wrote about the husky massacre. It would be really nice to see The Stranger do a piece on dog fighting and/or cruelty in Seattle, since cruelty and abuse contributes so much to dog attacks and bites, and is a public safety issue. In dog-friendly Seattle, most people don't realize there is a dog-fighting underground.

"They tried to adopt out the dogs"

They didn't contact the BC SPCA or any animal rescue organizations.

Please wait...
