Florida, in its rush to honor our forefathers' enjoyment of blowing off firearms at every possible opportunity all over town, has in fact made it illegal for any municipality to enact any sort of restrictive gun law whatsoever, which includes any restriction on discharging firearms within the city limits, such as Seattle has. The pinhead's backyard firing range, even though it is just a few feet from the heads of sleeping little girls, is utterly legal. Fortunately, even the gun nut has a tiny flickering of shame in his heart and has agreed to stop building it, though, since this is Florida, it is unlikely that he will be able to restrain himself when he gets fucked up on cough syrup and dry cleaning fluid and gets the urge to go bang.

I would hesitate to call it a "soccer riot". The state police have an extremely bad relationship with soccer fans, and it may just be a killing spree. The strained relationship is not because fans are not hooligans, it is because soccer fans played a big part of the tahir square occupation. The egyptian FA actually shut down the league for a while after it was found that the police which were supposed to be providing security, were actually assaulting political fan groups at games.

I have an exceedingly friendly 5-year old. We live in Philadelphia and commute on the public transit every day. He will talk to just about anyone. It's a joy, most of the time. The thought of family members organizing a kidnapping for a kid like that to prove some kind of point... just makes my heart hurt. I hope that boy has some adults he can trust, and I hope the people who did that to him rot in jail.

Happy Valentine's Day, everybody--hope it doesn't suck.
