Was it the comments or the pooping? Maybe a little of both?

Sometimes you just have to get involved. So many people have died because others were afraid to "get involved". Good for you & well done.

Score a point for "anonymous online interactive drama". I kind of like Scandalouas comment except for the fact that so many people have also died because they were too stupid, self-absorbed to get involved with idiots in the first place and not stand up for themselves. Not only does this enabling attitude endanger themselves, but its gets people drawn into their consistent dramas that they will most likely repeat again and again, and again, and again.

I'm a firm believer in Natural Selection. You've saved Neighbor With Poor Choicing Skills for another day!! Until he figures out how to get a butter knife into a wall outlet...

Seriously though, kudos.

Good for you! I can't "like" this enough (yes, I KNOW this isn't facebook). Hopefully your neighbor will come to his senses and find a guy that doesn't want to beat the shit out of him. You did the right thing, and I'm glad your neighbor was grateful and not upset about it. It wasn't quite two years ago that I heard what sounded like a woman being beaten to death, getting smashed against a wall and screaming for her life in a hotel in San Francisco. I had more sense to go knock on the door myself but ran downstairs to the front desk to alert the staff and have them call the cops. At first the idiot clerk did not believe me and asked "are you sure they aren't just having rough sex?" Yes, quite sure.
The cops came, got her out of there, she was a working girl (not that I'm sure that's relevant in any way necessarily- to the unfortunate fact that she chose not to press charges). She was grateful to get out of there. It was highly distressing to wake up to something like that, my wife begged me not to leave the room (because hey, we WERE in a country where people commonly carry GUNS). The POS guy turned out to be a European traveller- I wish charges were laid- if not to teach him a lesson then to have him barred from returning to the States and/or deported!
The law is quite different with assault in Canada- and it can be a double edged sword definitely in some cases- but here if police hear/observe/reasonally believe an assault has occured, THEY can press charges whether or not the victim wants this to happen. In this particular case I'd have loved to see that scumbag leave in cuffs- deported and never able to return. The hotel was ridiculously apologetic/embarrassed and tried to smooth things over by buying breakfast and a cab to the airport, unfortunately this kind of shit sticks with you.

Yet another booooooring I, Anon. But it is perfectly in line with the new booooooring reports and stories at The Stranger. Wonder why all the talented Old Guard bailed?
7
Can I like you Arthur Z? O' shit this ain't Facebook. Fuck!

Thank you!

@6 Damn, Artie,I expected that you would smugly point out that you were the first to advise this guy to call the cops thus making you the big hero. Or at least that you would call somebody an entitled hipster.

I retract the snarky parts of my comment to your previous post. This follow up shows a remarkable amount of maturity, so you are obviously not a pathetic POS. I'd toast you (and probably buy you a drink) but I guess I'll just settle for this note. Respect.

@9 You sound like a typical entitled Seattle Hipster. I'll bet you moved here from California. Go crack open another PBR...
12
@5 - Victims do not have a say about whether charges are brought in the US either. It is solely at the discretion of the prosecutor. But, just like in Canada, the victim can often make a prosecution impossible or very difficult by refusing to testify.

What's the deal with the neighbor who is physically unharmed but in tears? Grow a pair, homie.

Well, you saved his life, and my earlier point about not being an enabler apparently was not the thing to heed that night, but unfortunately I strongly suspect that your neighbor didn't really learn his lesson, although who knows? Maybe he learned something this time. Experience with people like that tells me that it unfortunately may not be the case, but I like to think that people will surprise me. I just know all too well how it goes with people who can't wait to help out the worst people they can find out of a kind of self-indulgent desire to be the savior of that person's world. Sometimes, this is the result. If this happened once or even twice (that's pushing it, but still), I might just be a victim-blaming dick, but three times? Captain Obvious says, your neighbor should know better than to let this guy in

Please wait...
