Waaaaaaa, I cant play my games the way I want to play my games! Boo! Bloody! Hoo! Here's an idea, try reading a book. It may actually give you faith in humanity again. There are plenty of subjects that could help, such as, oh, the overcoming cultural adversity as in Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letters From A Birmingham Jail", or maybe as a "gamer" girl you might like the messaging of gender acceptance and gender equality in somthing like "I am Malala", or if you just can't seem to deal with the real world or think its so bad now, try "DeadLands" by Benjamin Percy. That one will put a little "fantasy" perspective on to the possibilities of what our species can do to itself. For myself, Im now going to see if my faith in humanity is going to exceed its apparent stall with "The Structure of Evolutionary Theory". Will the species become cyborg-like? Will the species evolve to become non-corporeal? Or will the species just be a bunch of techno-zombies, with their little entitled heads so far up their Smartphones, FaceBook, YouTube, GoPro, and X-box that their heads explode when reality really hits them!
Seattebcc: the latter alternative is the likely one, and as the grocery store food shelves go bare, and as the summers just keep getting hotter, and as we discover that 'technology' and 'resources' aren't the same thing...a lot of hungry, angry people, and without useful skills - as it turns out.
Wait ... one bad experience at a gaming business ruined social gaming for you? A touch hyperbolic, don't you think? And the spitefulness ... anyone capable of getting that upset by something so trivial probably is better off NOT engaging other people. @1's book suggestion would be a nice safe activity I think.
God damn , this girl
Is upset.. And what, only 10 yrs old or so? Give her time to grow up, to notice what a blue sky is and white clouds. Give her time.
Stick to the books little girl sounds like your one of those "Gamer Girls" that just wants attention. Someone who just picks up on random cultures or hobbies whichever one seems most popular at the time if it doesn't go your way you want to hide behind a page or forum and cry. Ugh this generation.
@4: How did you come to the conclusion that she's 10 years old? I've never met a 10-year-old that use words like "allure," "quasi," [self-appointed], or "demeanor," let alone ones that writes pissed off letters to newspapers to vent.
If the guy running the show there was a manager, he's an utter idiot for not realizing the good of having more women in the lounge, and the LW can enjoy some schadenfreude when the place inevitably fails. If it was just some asshole customer with more money and time than sense, then I don't know why the LW didn't approach one of the staff to have the issue sorted out. But then, I grew up in the waning years of mall arcades, where most problems were sorted out with a guy pumping a few quarters off his belt, so maybe I'm out of my element.
(Also, that's an Xbox 360 controller in the image. Wrong generation.)
There's No Crying in Xbox One. WAAH-WAAH! If you can't handle playing with boys. Then you should play with girls. If you don't like the gamers you play with. Find your own. That's how Xbox Live works.
So you paid money to join a lobby/group of gamers with no guarenteed timeslot to even be allowed to play in?
Sorry to say it, but you got played. No one has the right to treat you like garbage for your gender or whatever, but you got scammed. FInd friends and play for free.
Oh, and just so I do not come off as a complete dick, I have no idea what games you are playing (the violence reference suggests a FPS), but Reddit has tons of subreddits just for people looking for people to play with, and most big games have dozen of "Looking for Group" websites you can try. You do not always find the best people, but it is better than paying for nothing.
I'm sorry, what is this crap? I, Anon has really declined since most of the staff that probably actually wrote the "letters" were fired. If the Stranger writers can do no better than this, The Stranger is doomed. God, how I DON'T want to have to start reading The Seattle Weekly...
I hate Anita Sarkeesian and her advocacy (she is the Food Babe of video games), but as her experience shows there is a MASSIVE group of asshole male gamers that love to heap abuse on women who have the audacity to want to play video games. And it seems even on Slog that when a woman insulted or ridiculed by gamers, the tendency is ... to pile on with more insults and ridicule.
It's so fucking gross how many dudes go straight to calling an adult female "little girl" and telling her what they think she should be doing instead of what she actually enjoys.
Video gaming, and computers in general, should have never been genderized. Alas, it began in the 20th century when people used to think certain things were for boys and certain things were for girls. I wish that level of stupidity hadn't become so entrenched. Video games and computers are for anyone who is smart and self-motivated. Even as a male, I find myself disgusted by the boys-club rants I see online and even worse are all the pre-pubescent boys yelling "fag" directly into my ear hole on Xbox Live. I gave up on competitive multiplayer long ago because it's entirely unpleasant. I almost exclusively play single player games and if I play with people at all it's all co-op games because they encourage positivity rather than competitive ugliness. It seems like co-op on consoles is going the way of the dodo bird but on PC there are more co-op games than ever before. Plus, if you really want to play competitive FPS games, play on PC because mouse+keyboard is where it's at and people rarely bother with voice chatting unless it's team ranked. Team Fortress 2 is entirely free to play, endless fun, and is old enough to the point where any common laptop can play it. Also, I'm a fan of Planetside 2, an MMO FPS currently on Windows only but soon on PS4. Heck, even League of Legends unranked is good fun with not much rancor. There's lots of opportunities to enjoy online gaming on PC. I can not stand Xbox Live and do not regret giving it up 4 years ago, it is a dirty dirty place. From a certain point of view this could look like I'm saying "go some place else," but I'm trying to be helpful in such a way that's more like "there's a place for you, here's some suggestions."
KNAT, it's a fake letter from some chick that is threatened by neckbeards who play games. I don't understand it either. I don't play games, so maybe I don't get it. But really? Good grief. Maybe it's a lesbian thing, who knows.
Whenever complaints jump from premise to offense without any discernable detail, I assume the complainant is hiding some shitty behavior on their part or is just terrible at quantifying events.
Stop calling yourself a "gamer girl." Christ almighty.
and @23 stop bumping coke nobody cares about your interests that much
I mean normally, I can come up with SOMETHING to add...a thought, a concern, some commiseration.
I just can't fathom caring enough about gaming to practice even a modicum of cultural relativity here. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. (And yes, I Anon...grab a book. They're great, and no one can tell you how or where to read them.)

Or something? It was a Joke. A lame one perhaps, still, a Joke.
[lays head on desk]
Go fuck yourselves.
Seriously, go fuck yourselves.
Well clearly, nobody else is going to fuck them, so...
