Icy water of Green Lake?

C'mon son.
7
WOW!
8
Anon...sounds like you're doing a good job assessing and acting. Proud you're human again!
9
It's a little dusty in here.
10
when they are righteous it gets quiet in here...

@6 - "Icy water of Green Lake?"

I think I'd let it slide. It was the winter of '08-'09 that we had that huge snow storm, right? With like, a foot of snow, just before xmess? Plausible the water would be freezing.
12
5, I have something in my eye now too. :)

Well done Anon. We're all proud of you.

It's not too late to love, apologize, thank and be grateful. Glad you learned to cherish your happiness. Thanks for sharing and learning.
15
Learning, sharing, growing - as a person. So inspirational - thank you. And thank you for falling into a lake instead of puking on their shoes. Because sympathy ends when puke hits the shoes.
16
fuckin' junkies, how do they work?
17
The hospital just released an addict who overdosed? Our mental health and substance abuse treatment system sucks so bad. It is amazing to me that the people who are able to get decent treatment are people who are able to hold a steady job or have a family support system. But if you can't function well enough to hold a job that will get you insurance and don't have family members able to help you out (which means you have the most severe problems) then you are completely fucked.
18
@6 "Icy-very cold". When you read the words "icy wind", do you think the wind is literally frozen? I can think of many times in which Green Lake has been very cold. Icy even. In the early summer even.
19
@17 sometimes instead of calling your emergency contacts, Overlake Hospital just puts you in a cab to Seattle's downtown emergency shelter! Which is really helpful if you're psychotic.

But then, they are in soulless Bellevue.
20
@17, and for anyone who truly is completely fucked, well, that's who started NA and who keeps it going today.
21
@6 -- water doesn't have to be 32F for you to die of hypothermia in it. Maybe he was describing how it felt instead of taking a scientifically accurate & verifiable measurement of the temperature.
22
One of the most touching I, Anonymous essays. Kudos.

Also, it's kinda hilarious that you can't remember if it was 4 years ago or only 3 that you nearly drowned, so bonus points for that.
24
I think you are using the term "hot mess" a little too liberally.
25
@24

Yes, at The STranger, it's a little dangerous to toss around the term "hot mess". Unles you are writing to Dan Savage's column.
26
By the way, let me paraphrase the I, Anon:
Look at me! Look at me! Look at me! I used to be a total loser, now I'm just pretentious!
Seriously, I, Anon, you want a pat on the back for behaving like a responsible human being? Well, "Add-a-Boy!” I'm surprised you didn't mention your "Higher Power (TM)".
27
I like it when ex-users say sorry. Makes me feel all warm inside.
28
Nicely done, Anon, turning your life around! Rooting for your continued success.
29
the best ending ever....peace to you!
