She made up the whole thing, sent a man to jail, and only got 1-3 years? Surely she deserves to serve at LEAST the four years the man spent in prison, if not his original sentence?
2
Gloria beat me to it. What the fuck? I hope she has some assets that her victim can sue the shit out of her for.

dismissal of her guilty plea should her son come back to life.

But no treatment for mental illness? Maybe that woman wasn't crazy before the cult sank its claws into her, but she certainly is now.

Meh.

It would take approximately one skrillion Last Days a year to report on victims whose rapists are never convicted. According to RAINN, only 6% of rapists spend even a day in jail.

Triple comment! Yeah!

@Belly: Meh? Because some scumbags get away with it all manner of scumbaggery is acceptable?

Fuck you.

8
nutxaq: Meh to you.

One mistakenly convicted non-rapist is a drop in the bucket compared to the 94% of rapists who remain convicted. Go cry yourself to sleep on your giant pillow of special dudely entitlement.
9
Fuck. Burn denied. I meant "94% of rapists who remain UNconvicted." UN.
10
@Belly,
So it is ok for a totally innocent person to spend 4 years of his life in jail, his yeasrs wasted, because others get away with their horrible crimes? Doesn't seem to make sense to me.
11
Belly your argument makes no sense. So 94% of rapists don't get jail time. Thats f#cked up. Doesn't mean a man who spent 4 years behind bars because of a lie doesn't deserve justice. In fact, both the 94% and the wrongly accused deserve justice.
12
and no I don't think that my being a man colors my perception, I have 2 sisters a mom etc and friends who have been raped/molested. Few things anger me as much as male on female violence. Sounds like you are discounting justice for all with your feminist oriented anger.
13
I'm not arguing that "Because some scumbags get away with it all manner of scumbaggery is acceptable," nor that "it is ok for a totally innocent person to spend 4 years of his life in jail."

The point I'm TRYING to make is that out of the maybe 300,000 people who commit sexual assault each year, only 18,000 spend any time in prison at all. I'm not sure how many people are exonerated of false rape charges each year but I imagine the number is relatively small.

Where's all the public outcry about rape victims who never get justice? Can we get some people calling for suing the shit out of their rapists?

This story is only newsworthy because it's an anomaly. And that it serves to spread discourse that discredits the testimony of actual rape victims.
14
maybe your anger should be directed at the accuser who created this situation that discredits the testimony of actual rape victims.
15
"...and confidential to all women driven to file protection orders: Please consider filing simultaneous gun licenses—this shit is ridiculous."

Except she wouldn't have been allowed to have a gun with her. Schools are 'gun-free zones', doncha know?
16
"...to all women driven to file protection orders: Please consider filing simultaneous gun licenses—this shit is ridiculous."

Has the Stranger changed its anti-firearm editorial position? Does the Stranger HAVE an editorial poisition on privately-owned firearms carried by private citizens?

David (welcome back) S. seems to feel a new position is indicated.

By the way, one does not "file a license"; one files an application for a license, and hopes the powers-that-be won't find a reason to deny the license, which would have been revoked after the victim used the licensed firearm to defend herself on school (weapons free zone) property.
17
Goddamn it. Although I agree that it's wrong that this guy should spend four years of his life in jail for something that he didn't do, it pisses me off even more that false rape accusations are perpetrated and covered extensively in the media, and because of this, assumed to be the default explanation whenever a woman says that she was raped. This is a huge part of the reason that women don't report it. Who wants to be judged and belittled for something horrific that happened to them just for having the courage to say that it did?
19
[schools are gun free zones.] i never got a free gun in school.
20
Mistout [schools are gun free zones.] "i never got a free gun in school." That's because you never went to South Lake or Rainier Beach High School.
21
again: having a gun in this situation probably would not have helped in the least. to really get an advantage with a gun, you need to be on the offense. even a highly trained gun owner would be hard-pressed to defend themselves, especially if the first notice they have of danger is the fact that someone just shot a hole in them.

Please wait...
