Ellyn here. It's now 2008. Jason and I have been married for nearly 12 years.

He has his green card. And he still has me. Nuff said.

Congrats ellyn

Congrats, that is pretty interesting if that is you. I wish more people who wrote letters would update like that.

good ol' Ellyn back and now it's 2011. Dan you are still wrong. Jason and I are still married, and it's been 14 years on Monday. I love him more now than I did when I met him all those years ago and wow, he still loves this woman-old-enough-to-be-his-mother. I think that says it all. Love is love, whether it's older, younger, grayer, beautiful or unique. You ought to try it sometime.

good ol' Ellyn back and now it's 2011. Once again, sorry to disappoint you Dan. Jason and I are still married, and it's been 14 years on Monday. I love him more now than I did when I met him all those years ago and wow, he still loves this woman-old-enough-to-be-his-mother. I think that says it all. Love is love, whether it's older, younger, grayer, beautiful or unique.

@Ellyn

First, congratulations. 14 years and still happy and together is a great thing, regardless of the circumstances. Second, defensive much? You seem awfully invested in some throw-away line that Dan wrote nearly 12 years ago -- enough so that one has to wonder if it struck a nerve.

Lets watch those comments about geezers...

Lol...I wanna know about Kevin...

Interesting that bit at the end about Kevin. So Mr. "It gets better" was at one point a bully himself, eh? In fact, he bullied someone he admits was mentally unstable and on psychotropic drugs and he did it publicly in his column (presumably, Dan is somewhat intelligent and knows that this kind of bullying would push even a normal individual over the edge; I can only imagine what it would do to a mentally unstable individual!) Wow Dan...you are, or were, a real asshole! How about an apology to Kevin for being bully and hypocrite?
10
Dan later admits that this entire bottom area is untrue. Kevin isn't bipolar, nor did he get his attorney to force Dan to print the retraction. It's all just for fun. Lighten up.

To the anonymous poster...consider it a tradition for me now. It was an unncessary, hurtful comment made by Dan Savage back in 1999. But now I don't care what he thinks, but I am still very much a proponent of older women/younger men and I don't want anyone to ever think that this kind of relationship won't work. Love is love, no matter what unique or unusual circumstances surround it. And as long as I can post in this comment section, I will be here to remind everyone that no one is too old to find the love of their life.

man, Dan constantly ridicules this Kevin guy in his column. If it's true, then poor Kevin. If not, then it's damn-hell-ass funny.

Ellyn, I'd say that based on the evidence, Dan is definitely NOT against older women, younger man relationships. In fact he has admitted that at 14 he slept with a 22 year old woman and at 15 with a 30 year old man. Those are much more extreme examples than a 30 and a 45 year old hooking up, and he claims he learned a lot, initiated the sex, and doesn't regret either instance. And in the column, he doesn't tell all these men looking for younger women that it's a bad plan, he tries to give them a place to go to meet them. And I mean really, Jason proposed the second he met you in person? I'm glad you are still together, but you got lucky that you turned out to be a good match. He was making a harmless joke, and something I would have thought of as well had I been in your position. I'm sure he'd be the first to applaud you for going the distance. Obviously Jason wasn't just in it for a green card, so who cares what Dan thought 12 years ago?

I always figured Kevin was fictional.

It's Ellyn again....In case anyone wondered, which no one probably has, Jason and I will be celebrating our 19th anniversary soon. Our marriage is still strong as we continue to whether the normal ups and downs of life. At 62 and 46, though our hair is grayer, we are still strong, and after two decades, I still look at my husband and am overwhelmed with the same sense of adoration I felt when I saw him the first time in London in 1996...I hope now that Mr. Savage can see that not EVERY unusual coupling will end up in horrible circumstances. I will post one more time on our 20th anniversary in 2017 just to prove, as in all matters of the heart, love IS love, no matter how different people may be.
