@101 nocutename: Now you've got me curious about seeing Lili Taylor in the 1991 film, Dogfight. I hear ya--heaven forbid Ivy League college bound Schermer High School varsity wrestler, Andrew Clark (Emelio Estevez) should ever have found true plainjane homeliness in reputed basket case, Allison Reynolds hidden beneath her black eyeliner and goth exterior.
I keep thinking of Karen Disher's smart, sarcastic Daria Morgandorffer and her gothic artist pal Jane Lane on MTV in the '90's from Lawndale High--the school that prided itself on being shallow and crass, and the history teacher, Mr. Anthony hating Daria because she knew all the answers in History class.
How sad that Hollywood film honchos would rather "uglify" a beautiful actress on contract
(i.e.: Natasha, Ally, Lili, et. al.) than refreshingly cast someone less visually stunning who didn't "have" to be a total knockout.
Oh, well. Upon looking back, I don't know if it would have made any difference if I had been drop-dead gorgeous, and the captain of the cheerleading squad in high school. I would still gladly have remained a math-phobic band geek.

@103 vennominon: You are most welcome. I consider myself fortunate to be living happily divorced.

Ms Grizelda - That was only Daria's first impression. She gave the correct answer to a question about Manifest Destiny, which he found suspiciously good. Then she raised her hand when nobody else seemed prepared to answer the next question, and he told her to stop showing off.

As the series progressed, Mr DeMartino, despite his paranoia, developed a much better appreciation of Daria than the over-emotional Mr O'Neill (despite Mr O's extra chances to get to know Daria as her English teacher when she develops her creative writing), who, well ahead of his time, was a walking MRA talking point. In the feature-length "Is It College Yet?" when Daria receives an award at graduation for outstanding academic excellence in someone with no other redeeming human qualities, Mr D gives her a, "You go, girlfriend!" as a reasonable summation.

We get an interesting comparison towards the end of the feature-length "Is It Fall Yet?" which is placed between seasons four and five. Quinn's PSAT score of 955 needs to rise to 1000 to get her into the party school of her choice. Partly motivated as well by Sandi reporting her own 920 as 956 (to Stacy's 940 and Tiffany's 902), Quinn arranges to be tutored by a college student, whose losing his temper when she doesn't apply herself gets her to admit the she does care and wants to do better. Even though the crush she develops on David is not reciprocated, Quinn still learns a lot of stuff and finds out that she doesn't have to be a dummy if she doesn't want to. When school resumes, the Fashion Club is in history class when Quinn actually raises her hand to respond to a question (an unprecedented action which jolts Mr DeMartino). and also correctly defines Manifest Destiny. For good measure, Quinn deflates a snide remark of Sandi's with the response that, just because a person can answer a simple question doesn't mean she's a pedagogue. The differences: Daria's embellishment to MD is that the group of people thinking the US should keep expanding westward did not include many Indians; Quinn's is that what's the point in owning the whole country if Hollywood isn't included; Mr DeMartino has mellowed enough to give Quinn a Very Good and thank her for making his day rewarding.

I'm glad SOS sounded out Mr SOS a little already.. She could also ask him about his fantasies directly or put on some sounding porn to see how he can take it. Pretty adventurous stuff.

SKEPTICAL sounds sketchy. They disclosed quite a few unique details for this to be a real secret. But I liked Dan's Disclose, Downplay and Drop style of advice. I'd switch the first 2 instructions though, tell her about the fantasy first and make sure y'all can talk about that without freak outs first. She might connect too many dots if you ask about the videos first. And yeah, encrypted USB drive, and if she's really not into it you might want to lock that away until divorce.

re: @110 & @0---Sorry about my double post, folks---I thought the system had rejected my first longer comment. Multiple post competition?
@116 vennominon: Daria Morgandorffer and crew do bring back some shallow and crass memories, don't they? Who is the aggressive female faculty member at Lawndale who claims to own the ultra-sensitive O'Neill? I remember Mr. Anthony serving as a summer camp counselor and the kids fell in love with him after O'Neill drove them stir crazy. I loved the Is It College Yet? episode in which Jane Lane made a fortune on what her parents would have paid for college---which she invested instead in her own art gallery.

@0 trouble: Why aren't my latest comments getting numbered in numerical sequence?
I just replaced my old modem.

I think it happens, G, when two or more posters are writing at the same time. Also, if it looks like your post is lost, wait a bit, as they just sometimes come in later. Tech boys may need to check these problems. I'd write them if I knew they were cute.

@119: Too bad Daria had to give back all her term paper cash ('I don't accept checks from college kids'). Meanwhile, Quinn got hailed Keg Queen at a fraternity; they all get busted on campus. Daria later protests, "Hey--I stayed with the tour guide!" and Jane quips, "Getting thrown off campus without enrolling first? I'm SO proud of you!"

@121 LavaGirl: Cute tech guys? Where?

Ms Grizelda - You remember correctly, but that's not "Is It College Yet"? That's an early episode in which Lawndale students visit colleges they might attend, and Jake and Helen drag Daria and Quinn to their third-rate alma mater Middleton. "Is It College Yet"? was the feature-length series finale.

Hun - Man has an interest and some proficiency in digital images.
SKEPTICAL could be a woman.

@125 vennominon: Oh--that's right. That was the Middleton episode.
Which one had Quinn applying for Manatee College in Florida (only
because it was reputed to be a party school)?
