Really... So The Stranger is going to bury its head in the sand and pretend that the absolute shit show at Sawant's rally yesterday, and the general storm brewing around the Head Tax, isn't a thing???

https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/homeless/fury-and-frustration-erupt-over-proposed-head-tax-for-homelessness-services/?utm_source=marketingcloud&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Morning+Brief+5-4-18_5_4_2018

Fuck... I remember when, agree with it or not, the stranger was something "more" than the Seattle Weekly because it at least talked about things that happened. Shame on you. You've actually made me miss the ECB days..... I guess this place really is just an entertainment mag now.

"Everyone is still losing pretty badly to Rossi, who enjoys high name recognition in the district and plenty of money from the Koch Brothers." Bend over, everyone. We're about to be frakkked.

Oh, and remember that vast aquifer in the Upper Snoqualmie Valley? There's likely a little 'natural gas' somewhere near -- or something Extractable, anyways. You don't mind, a little, well, we can't really say what (trade secret!) they're gonna leave you with when they've finished, there will be collateral damage, you, sucker, but that's what you get when you vote for this shit.

There's only ONE fucking Planet. We share it with The Kochs, who will NEVER have enough. But somehow, getting and hoarding Billions and Billions justifies their (co-) destruction of OUR Biosphere for the rest of US. When did the Kochs BUY this fucker? And who the fuck SOLD it to them?!

Thanks, Dino.

This is a fight about nothing. How about picking a fight on issues and policy? Has anyone promised to investigate Zinke, Pruitt or President Mulligan? These are both the kind of bland corporate candidates that have never won in this district. They’re stage managed from the national level. They’re forbidden from showing charisma, so we get a mock fight about polls. Jason McRodeo should ditch his prepackaged strategy and talk about hog-tying swamp creatures like Steve Mnuchin. What will Rossi say about that?

4

“Rittereiser called the poll "bogus" and accused Schrier of "misleading" people for only publishing the results of the "informed poll," which is taken after participants read positive statements about the candidates written by the campaign paying for the poll“. Hey - it was “the polls” that said emphatically and got Hillary elected- oh...wait.

5

@4 wow, scorcher of a hot take on polling!

6

Dems are looking pretty feeble in the 8th district. Maybe the Stranger should concentrate on Seattle Politics. The City Council governs like an elementary school student body trying to get Pop-Tarts and Red Bull served in the cafeteria for lunch. Per CM Herbold " its extra-judicial punishment with a side order of implicit bias. Seattleites love to discriminate, it's all they think about."

1: Oh, you mean the disruption Bezos probably paid for, staged by guys from the most right-wing, corporate-subservient part of the labor movement-guys who come off as the ideological descendants of the "hard hats" Nixon used to beat up peaceniks and people of color in the Seventies? THAT shit show? The one where the Times coverage you link to sounds like it was written by Tucker Carlson? Yeah...that was a shit show...and it was the rich who funded the shit. It has nothing to do with the story people are talking about here, but it WAS a shit show. Kshama did nothing to deserve that, and we'll cease to be a democracy if a tiny subset of "construction workers"-btw, do we have any proof that the guys who did that are even IN that union?-can force the city to abandon the idea that the 1% owe this city SOMETHING in exchange for all the windfall profits they've undeservedly made here.

@7 Great comment.

& this “ … a tiny subset of ‘construction workers’-btw, do we have any proof that the guys who did that are even IN that union?”

What? A set-up job? Would Billionaire Republicans (and fat cat Dems?) lower themselves to such shenanigans? I mean gerrymandering and voter suppression and all the billions spent on keeping the Electorate the fuck away from the polls, sure, they’re up for that … I do recall some of the Brethren lean Left, being IN the union, and some other members like to vote for pols who just wanna shut down their unions. So they can work at Walmart or the Home Depot or Subway. And bitch about the guys making union wages.

@1 See? #7 and #8 provided you a nice little conspiracy theory as to what REALLY happened.

Yeah, the extreme left in Seattle showed that it overreached. Let's hope the reaction at the polls won't put radical rightists in power and just put normal left of center people back on the City Council

10

FDRGOP: "Extreme Left"?
The corporate-friendly extreme left.
Yep.
They're EVERYwhere.

11

It's not "normal left of center" to believe that government should simply defer to whatever corporations demand. You can't obey corporations and still do anything significantly progressive. Worse yet, if we stay with this "It's ENOUGH to be non-threateningly anti-racist, slightly pro-LBGTQ and slightly pro-choice-it doesn't matter that we take the side of the rich against the people on economics" thing, that strategy ends perpetuating the situation we're in right now-where we have a false "populist" who has snuck into power by falsely pointing people of color, LGBTQ people and women as part of a privileged elite. "Pro-business liberalism" ends up betraying the very people it claims to be centereing.

Most actual Seattle residents aren't outraged by the idea of expecting the wealthy to finally pay their fair share of taxes. And the vast majority of union members know that taxing the rich doesn't jeopardize their jobs in the slightest.

Oh, and "Franklin D."., we all know you're a GOP op. Nobody who actually admires FDR would EVER advocate the Democratic Party taking orders from the "malefactors of great wealth", as the man himself called them.

12

If FDR had anything close to your view of life, he wouldn't have introduced this idea(an idea the American people supported by decisively re-electing him in the same year he introduced it): http://studentorgs.kentlaw.iit.edu/jicl/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/2015/01/Economic-Bill-of-Rights-FINAL-EDIT2.pdf

Might I suggest you change your posting name to "MisterWeCouldUseAManLikeHerbertHooverAgain"?
