A sad local example of a really big problem. Don't see that we have it in us locally or globally to change course.

I've had two orca encounters. Once in my kayak, alone in the Sound just out of Elliott Bay, I saw 3 orcas hunting salmon. And I also saw an entire pod roll by from the beach on Vashon. Pretty much the most amazing wild animal experiences of my life. They own the water environment and you can feel it. It's some old school shit.

Great. Now we have to listen to this woman masquerade as a marine biologist, too?

I hope RepubliKKKans, not orcas, become the next species reaching extinction, and soon. The health of our rapidly dying planet depends on it.

@3: I encourage you to experience orca sightings on Puget Sound. You'll never regret it.
You'll get to see what many of us consider worth saving.

Considering the borderline anti-semiticism in her previous Slog contribution (I sanctimoniously back-patted myself for my open-minded choice to marry into a Jewish family), why is Sarah Myhre still being allowed to publish in the a progressive newspaper like the the Stranger? And her put downs of minority and heavier women (they know the women, often fatter, blacker, and browner, behind them) and generally strange tone should make the Stranger think about publishing her.

We can make a change. I was pretty frustrated to see that this article didn't have any action you could take so I did some googling.

1. Urge our government to take a stand. OrcaNetwork.org (and others) suggest breaching the lower snake dams will help improve the salmon population the most. Use resist Bot (https://resist.bot/) to send a fax to Governor Inslee and Senator Murray telling them to breach the damn *this year.* No legislation is needed.

2. Sign the Change.org Petition: https://www.change.org/p/senator-murray-…
3. Donate. The following groups get recommended a lot: Orca Network, Long Live the Kings, Save our Wild Salmon, and People for Puget Sound
