It isn’t easy keeping up with New York singer-songwriter and drummer Frankie Rose, a former member of Crystal Stilts and Vivian Girls—among other bands—but it’s worth the effort. After spending the past year working as a duo in Beverly with Drew Citron, she now returns to her solo configuration (Kanine Records released Beverly’s Careers in July). Expect lovely, understated vocals buoyed by clouds of synths and sinuous percussion. Bay Area videographer and Grass Widow bassist Hannah Lew’s Cold Beat take a more direct but no less artful approach to post-punk with short songs composed of jangling guitars, jagged rhythms, and girl-group harmonies. On tour in support of their debut, Over Me, they offer the perfect counterpoint to Rose and Seattle swirl-pop four-piece Ephrata. KATHY FENNESSY
