If their birth dates didn’t indicate otherwise, it would be natural to assume that Chicago quartet Twin Peaks emerged from the same decade that produced the New York Dolls and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, since they trade in no-frills rock rolled in punk and dusted with glam (and sound nothing like the music in David Lynch’s TV series). With the exception of shouty rocker “I Found a New Way,” Twin Peaks’ hooks could use more bite, but Wild Onion represents a marked improvement over their first record. Led by Chad Ubovich (Fuzz, Mikal Cronin), LA four-piece Meatbodies put a psychedelic stamp on garage rock that isn’t a world away from what Ty Segall’s been cranking out, so it makes perfect sense that Segall produced their auspicious debut.
