The last time I saw Alice Gosti, her head was completely wrapped in toilet paper. For several hours, people sat next to her and told her short personal stories, and her big toilet-paper head would kind of nod lazily in acceptance. It was a super-weird, funny, absurd piece about the barriers to communication, and sometimes it gives me bad dreams at night. Gosti has stepped out of center stage for her latest project, Bodies of Water, a partnership between Velocity Dance Center and Friends of the Waterfront. This new number is a five-hour drop-in durational performance at Waterfront Park. Gosti told me the general plan is to celebrate and critique Seattle’s relationship with water. When you drop in is up to you, but if you stay for the whole thing, you’ll hear, among other things, vocal maven and former Pollens band member Hanna Benn lead a choir in song. You’ll see a marching band amble by. And, of course, you’ll witness the sun set behind the Olympics as eight dancers unite to become a single body of water. RICH SMITH
